Ainge looked better than ever

ESPN has Ainge second in the Nation behind Jamarcus Russell in QB passing effeciency. Ainge reminds me of Carson Plamer at USC who struggled in his early until a QB "whisperer" took him over.

The last thing we need is to compare Ainge to another great college QB. He's doing well being himself. I hope no one tries to categorize him as the second coming of some great QB again.

Why not? I think a little cockiness in a leader is good. It inspires confidence IMO.

Somewhat lost in all our problems stopping the flexbone was the performance of Erik Ainge:

24-29 for 323 yards and 3 TDs

He did throw the one pick in the 4th quarter, but all in all it was by far the best performance of Ainge's career. :good!::clapping:

Ainge looked SHARP tonight. He can really make some unbelievable throws at times.

I blame that INT on the crowd. :realmad:

...and how did we go from comparing Ainge/Cutcliffe and Palmer/Chow to Ainge being cocky?

Was that throw even close to anyone? Mix-up/miscommunication?

All you get listening to the radio is Bob yelling "PICK! PICK!"

It all started on that delay of game that led to the false start that led to 1st and 20 and eventually the INT.

Our offense is out of the huddle so fast now that the band can only get halfway through Rocky Top. The band stops, but the crowd keeps singing and wooing while Ainge is trying to run the offense. It's my opinion that's what led to the delay of game, our offense was waiting for the crowd to shut up...

Sometimes I think Bob Kesling gets as excited for the other team as he does the Vols.

John Ward NEVER did that.

yes, he does. he shouldn't do that. ward sounded pissed when the other team scored; that was awesome. mike keith does that for the titans as well; announces the other team scores in a condescending voice.

I see. That was a rather frustrating sequence... all of that culminating with the INT with could've been a Td and a 21 point lead. Quite a swing to say the least.

I know I was headed to bed a while ago, but have to put my .02 in on this... while I agree with OWB wholeheartedly about the crowd being a problem while we're on offense, and the band seriously should only play Rocky Top on 1)big defensive plays, and 2)scores. It doesn't excuse the poor decision to throw that ball. Austin (I think it was Austin in the middle of the field) was covered, even without that LB that EA obviously didn't see.

That said, you guys aren't giving any credit to Swain, Meachem, and Rogers for catching the balls.

Of course they deserve credit, but Ainge was really putting the ball on the money tonight. Rogers did make a pretty good catch on the deep ball.

Judging by the stats, and that's all I have to go by since I didn't see it, it looks like Meachem, Swain, and Rogers all had good nights. Definitely good to see.

They did have a good night as far as making all the catches. I really don't remember too many plays with big YAC though.

I agree with ya, but if it wasn't 1st and 20 stemming from the noise, Ainge probably would never have made that throw. It probably would have been a different playcall. Know what I mean?

Rogers looked good tonight. I'd look for him to get some more playing time.

i think the O-Line has alot to do with his success, i mean this guy is literally getting all day, although we havent faced an SEC defense so i will start judging come next week......But im am glad that he finally is holding his head up.....HATS off to the O-LINE, CUTCLIFFE, and of course mr Erik Ainge, and the rest of the TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS......GO VOLS

Austin looked very impressive to me tonight. Someone said he dropped a ball, but as much as I want to say he SHOULD have caught it, he was hit as the ball got there, and it likely would have been an amazing catch had he held onto it.

Yeah O-dub, I agree. I yelled at people to shut up multiple times while we were on offense.

How about this, we have Ramon Foster laying on the ground, injured, and these idiots are doing the stupid WAVE?!?!?!?!

Yes LIO, I just can't resist talking to YOU. :)

423, I want to dispell something you tried to say in a different thread, but I forget which one. We haven't held the last 13 OPPONENTS without 100 total rushing yards, but we haven't had a SINGLE PLAYER go for over 100 against us in now 14 games... they had a guy with 98 tonight.
