torn meniscus, been there done that. as long as they don't "repair" it, and him be out 5 months he'll be ok. more than likely they will just snip the torn part off and he'll b back n a wk or 2

If it's got to happen, early March is the time for it, I guess.

Mr. Ainge is a fine QB, but he's not exactly Cal Ripken out there, is he?

yeah from wikipedia

The majority of meniscal tears are not suitable for repair and instead the torn piece is removed, known as a menisectomy. The torn portion of the meniscus is cut and sucked out of the joint, leaving behind as much normal meniscal cartilage as possible. The remaining meniscal rim is then rebalanced and contoured to provide a more natural shape.

It probably won't be the end of the world. Crompton has been in the system for a while and will do fine if he has to step in.

People may love Crompton for no reason, but do not throw Ainge under the bus. Ainge is legit- we all saw it last year, and he has a wealth of experience that Crompton just doesn't have. That can go a long way in the SEC.

Ainge's experience is vastly underappreciated. Without him and with new WR's UT will run the ball 3 times then punt. When Crompton tried to call an audible against Cal, they immediately called a timeout. Crompton played well against LSU, not so well against Arky and has a bright future ahead of him but I would hate to see Ainge not under center to start the season.

His "I'm not sliding QB" comment after the LSU game got him alot of love from Vol fans.

Agreed Ainge is the better option. But lets not get carried away, he ain't all that! The Wrs improved greatly last year, a luxury he won't have this year! Not to mention OL questions.

Fr.- mediocre

Jr- above average
Sr- will define EA

Having gone thru the knee repair process twice, this should be a pretty easy fix. They should be able to just scope it and clean up the tear. A couple of weeks will get him back to full strength. Ortho medicine has made huge strides in the past few years. While not a good thing, it's the best possible scenario.

If I had a scanner I could put up some cool pics of mine.

It's just a little bone on bone action shouldn't slow him down at all :)

When did he get injured? This is the first I've heard of this....

From what I understand about these injuries, they can happen at anytime, and usually require PT and rest. It could be something he has been dealing with for a while, and has just been diagnosed.

I agree with most of this...but I think Ainge had a "good" freshman season. Far from mediocre.

He came off the bench to lead 4 scoring drives against Florida...he tossed 3 TDs against the Gators that night.

He went into Athens, as a 13-point dog, and threw 2 TDs to get us out of Georgia with a win. (We had a great performance defensively that day, I know)

He showed nice poise on the road at Ole Miss, helping us come from behind to avoid the upset.

Other than that fluke injury against Notre Dame, I thought Ainge was as good as any freshman qb in the country that year.
