'20 AL ATH Damarcus "Dee" Beckwith (Tennessee signee)

DW woulda been a great get with his size and still able to move but as far as a true football sense, Dee has him beat, imo. Just seems to have an all around, more natural feel for the game.

DW ability to move is almost reverse. I always thought he looked slow in his highlights but thought it was just his size and a long stride. Watching him in the all star game, unless he was half assing it he is very slow. The routes he ran took forever and the LBs were looking back because they were outrunning him. He’s going to end up one dimensional because QBs won’t have time for him to have long routes and he definitely isn’t going to be a take it to the house threat.

His career at Georgia will be short routes, blocking and jump balls in the endzone. Just put a 5’8” DB on him and we good.

DW is gone, DW is a ghost, DW is a myth.

Bring on DB ! I personally think Beckwith has more potential for stardom anyway. Kid is just over 6'5 and now just shy of 230 and can flat out run, has great hands, can jump out of the gym, is physical and not afraid of contact, physically ready to play college ball today and only going to get bigger, better and stronger and to top it off is versatile enough to play a number of positions. Just a fantastic athlete. What's not to love about this kid as a prospect ? Hope he's a VOL when it's all said and done !

I didn’t know we were so behind on WRs with all the defections. Need this kid to come in and do his thing, whether it’s at WR or TE or SF or whatever.

Keyton, Palmer, Gibbs, Johnson, Tillman, Hyatt, Callaway, Jones, Holiday potentially, Small potentially... that's a pretty decent foundation of talent.

What defections are you referring to?

More of the depth guys like JJones, the super duper DB Butch signed, and the three star kid who thought he should be starting above JJ and Calloway.

Elsewhere, Tennessee has positioned itself well for Alabama athlete Demarcus Beckwith. After missing out on Arik Gilbert and Darnell Washington, the Vols need to land Beckwith and slide him into the tight end room. Currently, UT is set to get the final visit before NSD (Jan. 31), with Kentucky and Florida also scheduled to host Beckwith. Last month, Beckwith’s brother announced his decision to play at Tennessee in 2020 as a preferred walk-on.

Interesting. Appears we’re talking to him at least being a TE. I thought he was set on playing WR.
Not sure what the coaches are saying but he looks like a football player to me. He could be a Jennings type WR or bulk up and play TE or one of those flex TE roles. I just like the way this guy looks and plays.

If he wants to play BB too, he might not want to bulk up too much. Might depend on how ready he is to commit to FB full time.

Dee projects as Joker type TE IMO. Guys that will chip block as well as in the open field, but are primarily receivers. A bit heavier than JJ that can still run routes like WR's as well as run the ball on sweeps. Something like how the Titans are using Jonnu Smith. You can line them up outside and drop your speed receiver into the slot because the D has to honor them with a d-back and not just an LB. Hybrid like the Star is on D.

As long as he doesn’t play like Kelvin Benjamin.

May get bigger too if he focuses on football. A lot of guys that play both keep weight down for bball.

Body type kinda reminds me of Warren. Might take him a couple of years to bulk up to where he needs to be in the SEC at TE.

He already weighs about as much as Warren. But Dee has fantastic athletic skills so I don’t know how big he can get before you start to lose what makes him special. Like I said, Kelvin Benjamin could outmuscle those tiny little ACC DBs all day long. Got to the NFL and found out that wouldn’t work anymore.

I like Beckwith and I think he gets the training he needs while he’s here at Tennessee to get him where he wants to go (NFL or NBA).
