Why would he.

What if we pay him 500k, but Bama or UF will only pay him 250k?

Things have changed...
Things HAVE changed; yet, they remain the same. Will ALWAYS have those "prophets" show up and make their "bold" declarations, no matter what...when in reality, they haven't a single idea of what the hell they're talking about.

This kid is just playing the game right now.
As he should.

The majority of fans don't see what's Really at stake now in recruiting.

In 2009 Cam Newton getting 100k was a huge deal. And even with inflation today it's still a big deal that amount of money.

Except now its more money (qty) available to more recruits. This means if you have the support (A&M) you can spend tens of millions OR MORE on one recruiting class to immediately change your schools fortunes.

Now back to the individual recruit and his family. So Bama/UF have more put more defensive players in the NFL than UT for the past 15 years. They have more Championships too.
But a kid only cares about himself and his family...which means before he even plays a college down he has the OBLIGATION (in his mind) to use his "potential" to set his family up for a better future 3 years before he ever steps foot at the NFL combine (if that ever happens).

It's the same as a person taking a 130k job in El Paso, TX , over the 90k job in San Diego.
90k in SD allows you to enjoy it. But 130k in El Paso opens many more investing opportunities to where 10 years down the road you eventually move to San Diego making 1 million per year...

On a simpler scale- a kid will take 500k to go to Kent st over 100k to go to Alabama.

Alabama defensive back Tony Mitchell is someone that we have spoken about the last couple of weeks here in terms of feeling out the Vols more and more. Nico has been working him hard and he is listening. I continue to believe that Mitchell is a longshot because I think it is a dogfight to just be in play and an even bigger dogfight to actually land him.

Pretty much Callahan's thoughts. Seems to think it is a massive dogfight, but we have a foot in the door at least.
