College Football Stats - College FB Team Opponent Points per Game | TeamRankings.comYou know they can’t consistently stop anyone but cupcakes.
Sheesh, didn't realize Bama gave up almost 30 ppg on the road. I know the 52 we put on them raised that several points alone.College Football Stats - College FB Team Opponent Points per Game | TeamRankings.com
Top 30 defense….. top 4 in the SEC
That's one measure and even with that one if you look at the game log... it varies a lot. At a minimum you have to couple that to the number of 1st downs allowed. UT was dead last in the SEC @23.6 per game... 121st in the nation. If you only look at 3rd down % then you have to assume the other team needs 3 downs.32nd in the nation in 3rd down %
Personally, I don’t care how many yards they get in between the 20’s or any of that. Do they get the stops when they matter and PPG is what I believe will set the tone for the season. Last year, I don’t believe they were as bad as people think. They weren’t great by no means though and must improve this year which I believe they will. They had 22-23 ppg last year and from what I looked up, opponents scored a TD on only 27 red zone trips out of 52 so just above 50% of the time. They did step up when it mattered against Pitt and Clemson. I’m hoping for more of a Clemson game type of defense from them this year. If they play loose like they did that game, they’ll be alright. That's one measure and even with that one if you look at the game log... it varies a lot. Another thing that can be looked at is sustained drives. I'd have to dig to find that stat. Would be interesting.
Interestingly, Oklahoma, Arizona, USF and Colorado tied for worst in the nation at 1st downs allowed per game at 25.8.That's one measure and even with that one if you look at the game log... it varies a lot. Good grief. 4th down % doesn't matter much. It's the total number of 4th downs converted that matters. For example, if your opponents went for 100 4th down conversions against you, and only converted on 42% of them, would you call that good? They only allowed 4th down conversions on 42% of opponents tries. Good for 28th in the country according to NCAA.com
Good grief, they only gave up 14 4th down conversions…..out of 33. Yes, I’ll take thatGood grief. 4th down % doesn't matter much. It's the total number of 4th downs converted that matters.
