Greg M. Cooper-US PRESSWIRE

University of Miami head coach Al Golden may be leaving the Miami program after his second season with the program.

According to a source within the Miami program, Golden is preparing to resign with three years remaining on his contract.

The university imposed a second straight bowl ban on Monday in the wake of an ongoing NCAA investigation, and Golden does not want to stick around when the NCAA brings the hammer down on the school.

Prior to the school’s announcing their bowl ban, the Hurricanes were a win over Duke away from competing in the ACC Championship Game–where a win would have secured a trip to the Orange Bowl.

However, it now appears that Golden will not be around whenever Miami will become bowl-eligible and could be a top candidate for the vacant jobs in the SEC.

This represents a quick turnabout for Golden, who made these comments to the Associated Press on Monday, “not in the business of searching for another job right now. … I can see the end. I can see what we’re going to become.”

Perhaps, Golden is fearful that the dark cloud of looming NCAA sanctions hanging over the program is enough of a reason for Golden to walk away now and jump to a program where he won’t have work around scholarship reductions and bowl ineligibility.

Golden came to Miami after resurrecting the Temple program having won 17 games in his final two seasons and was expected to do the same for a Miami program that essentially had to be rebuilt.

Miami currently has the No. 22 ranked recruiting class, but could see a precipitous drop should Golden leave the program.

With one game remaining to go in his second season, Golden is 12-11 and 7-8 in the ACC.

Would be Dooley 2.0. Hart would be ran out of town with this hire. Surely the boosters can stop him if he tries and go this route ?!?

Can't say I would be a fan of this hire. I don't ask for alot. All I wanted to see when Dooley was fired was a coach with a winning record hired. If the man wins more than he loses, I would see it as an upgrade and roll with it.

Auburn needs a coach, as does Arkansas, as does Kentucky, as does Cal.

Golden will not be in orange here next year.

Well if he's resigning with 3 years left on his contract, I guess that means it's going to be in 2017. He's under contract until 2020. I don't think you guys have to worry about him coming to Tennessee.

I feel sorry for Golden's situation but what's the deal with him? Maybe I'm missing something but he seems more like a middle tier coach. I've seen his name floating around a lot and just didn't understand why people are so high on him.

What a quitter. He needs to fulfill his promise to Miami, and stay where he is at. If Hart hires this clown this fanbase will come unglued. No thanks to Golden. No damn thanks

but seriously the guy turned around temple, if you're not from the philly area you have no idea how big of an accomplishment this is. that said he'd be an underwhelming hire to the Nth degree

If Golden were to be hired by UT, I will go to the presser and BOOOOOOOOOOO! Bank on it.

I'll do you one better.

I'll consume my body's weight in bath salts. And, in the last few moments of my life, I will proceed to fly to the podium, and rip apart Al Golden and Dave Hart with my bare hands.

Same goes for Fisher or Charlie Strong.

I'll take one for the team. You're welcome, VN.

:)
