I have a question for you guys in the military.(Thank you for your service btw.) How much longer in your view, will it take to get the Iraq military up and going 100%? I was just setting here thinking about it. I haven't heard anything about it in awhile. TIA.
The Iraqi Military has made such incredible strides from Day 1 but still has a long, uphill battle to climb before they are prepared to fully take over the country at 100%. If you put a gun to my head and asked me "When can the US leave and be CONFIDENT that the Iraqi Military can take over and KEEP IRAQ SAFE?" I would say another 7-12 years. That may sound extreme and may come with my cautioninistic (not a word but I will run with it) nature but I think the IM has several years to go before it weeds out most of its internal/external problems and they ARE getting better but a little too slowly for me IF we are asking them to TAKE OVER COMPLETELY
In addition, the amount of variables depending on OUR actions are countles: Do we want to keep a small occupation in Iraq? How many men are we going to keep to if we do pullout for security at NUMEROUS locations throughout Iraq? What about those we are looking to protect with added security? The list could go on and on with things of that nature.
I suspect we will have many more men in Iraq for the next 7-10 years than people are willing to be told....even with the Democrat candidates who want to "pullout within a year" which I just find absolutely ridiculous.
