Al Qaeda...you awful b**tards

I have a question for you guys in the military.(Thank you for your service btw.) How much longer in your view, will it take to get the Iraq military up and going 100%? I was just setting here thinking about it. I haven't heard anything about it in awhile. TIA.

The Iraqi Military has made such incredible strides from Day 1 but still has a long, uphill battle to climb before they are prepared to fully take over the country at 100%. If you put a gun to my head and asked me "When can the US leave and be CONFIDENT that the Iraqi Military can take over and KEEP IRAQ SAFE?" I would say another 7-12 years. That may sound extreme and may come with my cautioninistic (not a word but I will run with it) nature but I think the IM has several years to go before it weeds out most of its internal/external problems and they ARE getting better but a little too slowly for me IF we are asking them to TAKE OVER COMPLETELY

In addition, the amount of variables depending on OUR actions are countles: Do we want to keep a small occupation in Iraq? How many men are we going to keep to if we do pullout for security at NUMEROUS locations throughout Iraq? What about those we are looking to protect with added security? The list could go on and on with things of that nature.

I suspect we will have many more men in Iraq for the next 7-10 years than people are willing to be told....even with the Democrat candidates who want to "pullout within a year" which I just find absolutely ridiculous.

I would really like to throw in a completely uncivilized and rude response to this statement, but I will hold myself in check.

More than anything this should show you just how far we have come since March 2003. Al Qaeda is being forced now to use mentally retarded people to carry out attacks that two years ago men in the prime of their life would have been waiting and willing just to be asked to carry out an attack like this. This one tragic event should display to the whole world that we are not only winning the war on terror, but we are winning by so much that our enemy is completely demoralized. Two years ago reports came out that our effort in the GWOT and in OIF were actually creating untold numbers of new recruits to fight against us. In light of the Anbar Awakening and other "awakenings" across Iraq, the recruits have all but dried up.

The ONLY way that we succeed over there is if Iraq itself stays on the course it is going and holds it's ground. All its going to take is one radical person like a Saddam Hussein type to screw it all up. I really want us to succeed, but if the Dems take control then liberalism may kill our chances over there. I understand that this is a new enemy and that it takes time and I am willing to wait, unfortunately what I stated in the last sentence doesn't have the patience to endure and succeed. That's what I was referring to in my mind and it translated VERY badly.

Thank you sir, this is just a real eye opener compared to what you hear on TV. Now I really have to ask myself, why would the Dems try to tell us they will have our guys in a year or so. It would seem they would have learned there lesson when Nancy Pelosi started that talk when she got the speaker of the house title, and look at the ratings now. Anyways, thank you guys for your answers and for your services.

Perhaps if the American people were not lied to about the real intentions of going to war with Iraq, they would have a little more patience and confidence that our boys could get the job done.

seems to me that any rational person would fully understand that the two are absolutely independent. Reason for going vs. ability to execute just don't intersect anywhere.

That's one reason right there that we won't succeed over there. They are willing to do anything to keep the job done and we aren't. My God have mercy on their souls, because I know I sure wouldn't.

I disagree. This is EXACTLY why we will and must win. The world can not be ruled by such people.

I agree and that's not what I meant by my statement. Just for clarification, what I meant was if the liberals in power have their way in this upcoming election any chance in winning will be hindered and may cause chaos.

Any rational person can see they directly affect each other.

A dishonest government? An incompetent government?
Neither are acceptable.

Since I'm obviously irrational, help me out with how the reasons for going to war somehow have something to do with execution of the war? I'm but a babe in these matters and you apparently have some experience.

Surely you would agree that Bill Belichick is competent, but dishonest so the two don't have to be mutually exclusive.

I'd also like some insight about our last honest presidential administration. I can't seem to recall one from my lifetime.
