He’s a former teammate and close friend of James Robinson, freshman OL at UT. Callahan article made it sound like he’s likely to sign with UT next week. Some nice numbers this fall...

“While Gaston said he has started since his freshman season, he said this year “was really my breakout season.” He recorded 96 tackles, including five tackles for loss, and intercepted five passes this during his senior season in addition to scoring 10 touchdowns on special teams — seven on kickoff returns, three on punt returns. He also had a pair of receiving touchdowns and a touchdown run.”

Has to be a PWO though. Has to be.

If UT is really going to pursue this kid, then wouldn't they also consider CJ Taylor from Warren County too?

I'm no expert at critiquing film, but he looks really good to me... especially on ST. He has really good vision and patience on his kickoff returns.

That finally changed Monday night, when Tennessee gave the Class of 2021 safety from Carver High School in Montgomery, Ala., his first Power Five offer. He said the Vols are now “number one” in his mind among the nine schools pursuing him.

“He said he needed a safety that’s going to come downhill and hit and make plays, catch picks,” Gaston said, recalling his conversation with Ansley.

“That’s a big plus,” Gaston said. “(Ansley) was saying he was looking for a safety like how I play, so I think I can come in and work and get the spot.”

“I’ve got good ball skills and I can return kicks,” Gaston added, “so that’s a plus for every other sake.”

“Since this came, I might be signing in December — 11 more days,” he said, referring to the final day of the Early Signing Period, Dec. 18. “Right now, I’m just putting it in God’s hands. I might end up committing before then, though.”

Safeties generally don’t excel at press man coverage like this
Yeah when I was playing safety, that’s not exactly the bulk of what you’re asked to do. You’re covering whole sections of field, not necessarily covering someone man to man. It’s a stressful position, too.

I laughed my a$$ off at this. People were trashing this kid not an hour ago.
Exactly. Anything below about the top 200 players this year is a total crapshoot. The evaluations are going to be screwed up nationwide, because these players will have not had any person evals for almost the last 2 years of their high school careers. I'm not saying he's gonna be great, but our current safeties are pretty average in coverage, and he looks to be a game changing athlete. Possibly a smaller athletic safety that has ball skills and instincts. Hopefully this means we're giving out a gitshirt to White and not losing Rucker or Marley. Unless the see Marley as a star position or slot receiver and just getting a 2nd safety.

White isn’t going anywhere.

Also, it's interesting that SEC coaches still respect Pruitt's evals. Anytime UT is the 1st to offer an unknown player with FCS offers, you usually see Auburn, South Carolina, Florida State and the Mississippi schools follow suit.
