If a kid doesn't come to UT because Al is on the jumbotron instead of EB or PM, does anybody really think the kid wanted to be here anyway? Al deserves to be honored as much as anyone who ever played here. Bravo if he is on it.
Or umm Peyton. I love big Al, but even Eric Berry would be more relevant these days.
i think, as we've seen, changing the picture is not something you can apparently get done in day or two.
Al Wilson is a Tennessean, All American, team captain, all conf, all american, conf and national champion, nfl pro bowler.....
there's cases to be made, i guess, for several candidates. but when you think "leader" and "VFL".....how many guys are really ahead of Al Wilson?
it's debatable, but no matter who anyone names, it would be an extremely short list.
excellent choice.
If the panels could be digitally changed, Id love to see the two side ones change every ten seconds or so.
The left one could change between Vol All American football players....Wilson, Reggie, Peyton, Atkins, Lauricelli, etc.
The right one could change between all time greats in other UT Sports like Coach Mears, Summitt, John Ward.
The Center one would never change.
It should always be Robert Neyland.
Also love to see either the V-O-L-S letters or a Power T on top of the Jumbotron.
Absolutely correct...for a player to make this list, would be a very, very short list. Al has all the attributes...like you said, a Tennessean, All Conference, All American, Team Captain, NC winner, NFL career, Pro Bowler, solid reputation, loves the orange, no controversies, leader....that is A LOT of boxes he checks off. Not sure who else could check off all those boxes.
Only other person I would think of that could check off a lot of those boxes (less the NC, but add in Super Bowl winner and NFL and SEC player of the year) would be Reggie White....and he is already on the Jumbotron.
So, since you have Reggie on the Jumbotron, and no one else checks off those boxes, Al is the best candidate.
And for those of you who think Peyton--he misses one big box...He was not from Tennessee. Great career, great NFL career, but I like showcasing our in-state talent.
