Alphonse Taylor of Alabama Crimson Tide arrested on DUI charge

"...started all 15 games at right guard for the Crimson Tide during the 2015 national championship season. He was named a preseason second-team All-SEC pick last week."

"...was already in murky standing before the incident, having spent much of spring practice working with the second-team offense. Saban said Taylor's demotion was because he needed to lose weight and get in better shape."

Saban's response: "Well, we can't suspend him. It's not like he killed somebody!"

I have no sympathy for DUIs. I'd send Taylor's fat*** packing.

This is not a shot at you really because you see this with a lot of fans everywhere but considering the out of shape/over weight comment from Saban is this more about the DUI or his out of shape fat***.

Phone rings at Tuscaloosa county jail:

Sheriff: hello

Saban: hello sheriff this is Nick Saban and...

Sheriff: say no more coach, we will release him and all charges will be dropped immediately. We dont want to put any black marks on this young mans record. You have my cell number coach in case you need anythinh. Roll tide.

Serious question: what if the charges are dropped somehow?

Don't really care. If he blew over a .08 then he put a bunch of people at risk. Whether or not Saban or the authorities do anything won't change my opinion. If it were up to me Geno Smith wouldn't be playing for Bama for the exact same reason. Driving drunk is BS.

He will do 2 weeks at Bradford and miss 0 playing time, if that. Book it.

Again, being serious here. Do you not view an immature young kid with a stolen gun and smoking pot as putting people at risk?

And for the record, I agree on the driving drunk. Penalties are generally far too light for drunkards.

As I've said before, there is no allegation that he stole the gun or knew it was stolen. As such, by law, he had a gun.

And there was no suggestion that they were high. Possession does not equal impairment. None of the cops' affidavits said that they appeared impaired, and if they were field tested they must have passed.

Agreed. It's the equivalent of randomly firing a gun in a neighborhood. You may not intend to shoot anyone, but you are putting everyone in the area at risk.

Well I for one, and I doubt I'm alone, would not feel safe around a young guy with obvious decision making shortcomings, in possession of a gun that is not properly registered (can't be registered if it's stolen, whether he knew it or not) and in possession of an illegal drug.

I view that as a risk.

I understand the Knoxville police let Butch know that from here on out they won't be calling.

You don't have to register a handgun in Louisiana or Alabama. Or Tennessee for that matter.

Calling to let the coach know he has a situation to address and providing special treatment are two different things. I'm sorry if I misunderstood what it appears you where trying to infer. I find it difficult not to see unashamed holier than thou arrogance in bama fans.

I'm inferring that Saban will get the head's up. Butch, not so much.
