Alabama Defense

TN(work here) Alabama Crimson Tide Fan.
If you changed your avi to a Bama logo or something similar it might help folks recognize you more easily, save you from having to issue such explanations in the future.

Also I don’t think you need worry about being ostracized. As you post more you’ll be able to build a rep as a respectful, decent poster. We treat opposing fans on the board pretty well as long as they aren’t antagonistic or overly homerish.

This is one of Tennessee’s strengths. We won’t out smart anyone the traditional way. Those WR splits makes things super simple. You have to declare… so all your star and money players have to declare and then we will make them do what they are uncomfortable with. Your CB’s are in trouble for Bama CB’s they are suspect. If we win on the ground too then you guys are in trouble. In this one if we win the turnover battle we win the game… simply because nothing else is gonna stop us.
our offense isn’t something that is going to confuse anyone but it will confront your issues. And magnify them with the speed we play with. Good luck. I think you lose this one. Orange colored glasses aside.

When Tennessee goes NASCAR, or Racecar things will get interesting on the outside.

My biggest concern is how much time hooker will have to wait for the deep pass to develop. O line must play well. No doubt the UT WR's can get open.

We have a pretty good defense that seems to stop playing during the game for some reason.

Not sure your QB will see a defense (except UGA) that has disguised the defense as much as Alabama will this week. If your QB can figure it out, UT will win (maybe not the only reason). I’ve seen several of the Vols games this year, but does he have time to change play at line or do they just run what is called and hope to catch D in confusion?

Defensively I think Alabama will rely more on pressuring the QB and stopping the run than disguising coverages. Secondary not as good as years past, however still have a dominant front seven. UT's offensive tempo doesn't really allow you disguise or bait the QB. I guess we'll see, though.

I think regardless of who plays (bryce or not) at QB, Bama will eventually prevail. The talent gap is too high at multiple positions. I will be praying for a TN win but it takes time to build roster like Bama and TN is just getting started. We have too many holes to cover with one Hendon .. I am still positive we ll get our first 10 win season since forever

I assure you there will be a lot of PI Saturday. Hook just needs to burn them on the blitz and Tennessee should be fine.
Pass interference and holding on every red zone down, especially if we are near the end of a half. If you foul every down, the offense is trading away time it doesn't have for a chance at another down. Alabama most definitely does this and will drag out this trick against us to make us decide on taking a field goal or gambling on getting the call.

I guarantee Hooker and the coaches have spent endless hours in the film room this week disecting Alabama's defense. Hooker will know exactly what keys to look for on Saturday and make the calls to maximize the potential yardage.

Conversely, I would think the rapid pace UT's offense uses makes it more difficult to disguise a defense. Not sure how free Hooker is to audible, but he is pretty smart and has good awareness.

The real question is how many cheap shots will Alabama’s defense get away with especially if they get nervous about losing

This is the second year I have had season tickets so let me first say I think watching this offense in person looks different than it does on TV. On TV they are doing replays, showing cheerleaders, girls in the stands etc… In person you see what is happening on the field between snaps.

It seems like I hear everyone talk about scripts and speed of play but I believe numbers are deceiving. Let me say the first few games last year my head was spinning because I was used to look at replays or the clock, cheerleaders, co-eds, etc… between plays. I learned not to take my eyes off the field between plays so I could see the whole chess match being played and I learned this offense has gears. As soon as a play ends, hooker is getting calls from sideline while everyone else is lining up. WARP SPEED: Anytime he sees the defense not 100% set or set in a defensive mode he knows he can take advantage of then a quick snap happens usually for large gain or what could have been if the pass was a little lower. Many times he snaps the balls as the defense is moving to where a WR just setup and they are only half way there. MID SPEED. Sometimes he takes a second and calls the Audible. SLOW SPEED. If he is not 100% sure, he will back out of center and get a new play called from sideline and usually snaps with just a few seconds left on clock.

I think everyone that does not see all of what is going assumes that UT constantly runs to line and quick snaps. That is just not the case but when they do those quick snaps they are so fast it makes the average low.

As others have pointed out, a lot of the success is because HH is reading the D and making choices out of a list of what was sent to him.

If Tennessee doesn’t have turnovers the game is close and UT has a chance to win. Turnovers and they will be playing from behind and it will be long day against the Alabama D.
