I saw the story on ESPN.

Hopefully he recovers fully.

However, I have to say, I sense that something isn't quite right with the story. I would not be surprised if there may be more to this.

Tide's Deaderick released from hospital (LINK)

...The chief did say he wanted to put to rest a rumor that was circulating earlier this morning.

The notion that detectives are skeptical of Deaderick’s story is not true, Anderson said.

“We have no reason not to believe that what happened is the absolute truth,” he said, adding that he spoke with Deaderick briefly at the hospital following the shooting and had no reason to doubt Deaderick’s story.

Deaderick told police that he and a female companion arrived in the parking lot of Rivermont Apartments about 10 p.m. when he was approached by a man wearing dark clothes, a dark ball cap and a blue bandanna over his face.

When he refused, the assailant fired the gun, sending the bullet into his arm and hip...

It may well be exactly what happened, but that is hardly a ringing endorsement of his version of events.

Like I said, I can't point to anything in particular that makes me wonder. I suppose the whole it was a guy in dark clothes with a bandana on his face that just seems too, I don't know, convenient.

Anyone heard anything more about this? I've read a few articles. Apparently the fellow (huge -- 300 lbs plus) says he was protecting his girlfriend from getting mugged. But people who live there are expressing some bewilderment because the complex is gated. As one put it: Why would a masked gun man go into a gated complex and try to rob the biggest guy he could find?

Pretty sure he means he could tell you some war stories about bravery and seeing some action. But is taking the high road.

Ok. And if he had told the war stories I would acknowledge that the heroes of such stories were extra extra brave, brave without measure. But that still doesn't invalidate my opinion that standing up to somebody with a gun constitutes bravery.
