Alabama has already been crowned

He's right about this:

No fan base in the country loves their team quite as rabidly and obsessively as Alabama fans, but in the post-Bear Bryant era, that hasn't always been a good thing. No one gossips, spreads rumors or gets their team put on probation quite like them, either.

Stewart Madel is to College Football, as Peter King is to the NFL.

AKA: Useless.

It's hard to think of anything that would make me happier than for Alabama to go 5-7 this year, with losses to both UT and Auburn. That would be beautiful.

Spring practice is looking good, the O-line is shaping up thank God. Hopefully MA will utilize some of the best WR's in the Sec. I predict a 8-4 season with an exciting air game. Anything over 8 wins would be nice, but I am not expecting a miracle overnight.

You know anything about a DL named Brandon Fanney? He came from my town (in Tennessee). I have never really heard anything about him after he went down there...

Hopefully he moves to DE where he can get some playing time. He won't play NT under Saban's 3-4. Hard working kid though, and should get alot more playing time this year.

Kid was a total beast in High School. Naturally, I hate Alabama but I have a little soft spot where I want him to suceed, unless he's playing Tennessee.

You making the trip to T-town this year?

I don't think I will be, unfortunately. My away game this year is going to be the Cal game. I've a two-year-old, so it's tough to make as many games as I used to.

It would be fun to see Saban's first game against UT, though. I grew up in the 70s, so (no offense!) I hate you guys about as much as the NY Yankees and the Gators combined...

It will make you even more sick when they are our only loss or 1 of our 2 losses this season.

I'm with you. I thought they were set up for a good season BEFORE dumping Shula, and while I think Saban's overrated (based on his resume so far), he's definitely an upgrade. And playing in Tuscaloosa? That's going to be tough.

You seem hell bent on us busting heads this year, what gives?

DJ Hall said it himself in the article, and I've said it since hiring day - Alabama had the talent, but it was young, and it was compounded by a mediocre coach.

A lot of people on this board and on Auburn boards are certain Alabama will stink, only for 2 reasons:
1. Alabama stunk in 2006
2. They hate Alabama

I hate Alabama as much as anybody (in the rivalry way), but I know Alabama will be a great team in 2007. I spend almost all of my free time studying, researching, blah blah blah.

Alabama will have the best WR duo in the conference. Alabama will have one of the 3 or 4 best QBs. The offensive line will improve exponentially with the new coaching staff.

The defense, while it took some losses, will always be good under Saban.

Remember this - Alabama, statistically, had one of the 4 best offenses in the conference last season, but due to awful awful coaching, Alabama couldn't score. Do you REALLY think Nick Saban will find ways to keep the team OUT of the end zone? Hell no! Alabama performed better than their 2-6 SEC record indicates. It will be between Alabama and LSU for the SEC West title.

I'm with you. I thougt with Shula, they were an 8 or 9 win team. Saban is so much better. However, he isn't the biggest key to growth.

It's the other pieces of the staff that he put together. THEY will make Alabama a contender.

Care to place a wager on that?

Absolutely - anywhere from $50 to $100 that Alabama beats us straight up in 2007.

EDIT: Edited to add that I've never bet against Tennessee, so it will be very difficult, emotionally, for me to do this.

2nd EDIT: Edited again to add that I'm more confident of Alabama winning the West than Alabama beating Tennessee. A lot of these games are so close on paper that Alabama could lose to Tennessee, but realistically beat Auburn or Georgia and win the West.

John Parker Wilson is still the QB right?

They might have some talented WR's, I just don't think JPW is that big of an asset. We all know JPW is tough, if you didn't get Gary D's message last tear during the game.

The kid is from Hoover though, they know a thing or two about Championships.

I was impressed with his arm behind a truly awful offensive line. I actually have JPW pegged for 1st or 2nd Team All SEC, not that my opinion really means anything.

I don't believe Saban will work miracles his first year there. However, if the O clicks like it should the will be dangerous. I'm with you VIA when you say that the receiving duo and JPW are underrated. However, IMO they cannot score enough to make up for the shortcomings on D THIS COMING SEASON.

In 08 and beyond, as much as I hate to say it, Bama will be a force, until Saban's 5th year when he takes another job.

Do they still have DJ Hall? If so, you can expect him to singlehandedly get 200 yards of offense against us.

I know everybody thinks Saban is just going to keep moving around like Larry Brown, but I just can't see it happening. If he's successful in Alabama, no college team would spend more than the Tide would to keep him there. If he's not that successful, nobody will spend the money to hire him away. And nobody in the NFL will hire him again, of course.

His price is now so high that he's locked into Alabama for the duration of that contract, for better or worse. The only way he leaves is if he's a flop and they fire him, and with all that guaranteed money, you'd think it would have to be horrible before they'd do that.
