Alabama is moving to the ACC!

I certainly agree with much of what you’ve said… and to be honest, I really have nothing but respect for Coach Saban and what he’s accomplished. To me, it’s just a very bad look from a very great coach.… I hope no VOL coach now or in future would “flip” positions and make us look silly.

Like many others who eventually rise to prominence from their hard work, it would have been much more impactful if Coach Saban had led the changes he advocates now “for the future and love of the game” before he entered his twilight years. With great power comes great responsibility... so they say…. Coach Saban has had power for way over a decade.

Again, my post is simply “mocking” the overall Bama program now (not really Nick Saban personally)… programs certainly evolve from one coach to another. In another sense, my post simply tries to point out some of the changes going on are definitely not part of CFB that we grew up with.

Go VOLS!
Thank you for taking the time to further explain. I understand and appreciate your thoughts better.

And, you know... politically this has been something we've seen repeatedly, that anyone who takes on the issues publicly almost always has to do so from a position that is a "bad look." They're kinda like that older-than-everyone else bully who could turn anything people did or said into a humiliating taunt. (and it helps to "own" the microphone)

So what's the reason Heupel voted for 8 games?

Certainly can't speak for JH but possibly it could be he enjoys the Intersectional games. We went to Pitt last year and it was a wonderful trip. I have been pretty much to every place we have played. South Bend, Boston, Eugene, West Point , LA, San Diego and Pasadena beat the hell out of the little cesspools we go to in Alabama, Ms and Louisiana.

We were really looking forward to going to Park City for a week around the BYU game in Provo this year but now we have an 11 AM game in Nashville that we will pass on.

Anyway JMHO!

Hayes: SEC teams will pay dearly in 2024 for not agreeing to 9-game schedule

Obviously, there’s some humor in the title of this post… but not really. I attached (above) link to article which prompted this post.

It’s absolutely sad (and funny) to me that the once proud Alabama program is soo scared to death about facing our Vols that they’d like to just punt the series we’ve played since way before I was even born. I’m personally not scared of Nick or that Bama team… even more so now that they have done a literal “about face” to march towards their new mediocrity. Frankly, if Nick and company are going to cowardly avoid a challenge, just let them say they aren’t interested in the 3rd week of October anymore (because that’s what I’m hearing from San Destin this week).

it is what it is Vol Nation… the sport we all love is in transition. I personally hope our university and team will continue to chase and embrace excellence as opposed to going along with some other members (looking at you Bama!!!) who don’t really want a challenge or are simply just looking for some $$$ from ESPN/etc.

Our Vols are better than those tides of folks who only can survive if their team is winning. Life is full of both wins and losses… we all have to roll with it.

Go Vols!!!!

Tennessee also voted no / was against a 9 game conference schedule.

The only schools in favor / voting for it were Florida, Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M, and Missouri

Once you’ve been to the mountaintop and been elite, it’s hard to stay there. Nick and Bama have had their run. They’re always going to be a very good team but his days of dominance are over and the older you get the more you realize that ship has sailed. Now can Sabin live with that? Probably not for very long.

9 conference games doesn’t remove the SEC requirement of playing at least one Power 5 team. What it would change is Tennessee and the other SEC teams would only be playing 1 MAC/Sunbelt/MWC/American/CUSA team plus 1 FCS team, instead of the current format of playing 2 MAC/Sunbelt/MWC/American/CUSA teams plus 1 FCS team each season.

Tennessee is not the only problem Alabama has. Just a prediction but I think this will be Saban’s last year. He has all the money he will ever need and at his age you start thinking what remains in your life.
Just another prediction...saban will never retire after a season that does not end in a natty.

He will be around atleast 5 more years and possibly more. I hope he leaves soon
, but we are still not on their level talentwise. I'm so glad we finally beat their a$$, but it wasn't because we outtalented them. On their last drive when they missed the FG, Gibbs dropped a wide open pass over the middle. If he doesn't drop that, he either scores or sets up a very short FG. I watched it on ESPN again the other day and I don't know how he dropped it. The football gods were on our side that day. We still have a few yrs until we can start matching them talent for talent. I highly doubt Ala will win the NC or even SEC Championship with their QB situation and average at best OC. And I don't see little Nickey retiring on a non championship year.

I personally hate playing FCS teams. Yea they are easy wins most years and the younger guys get to play more. But those games are so hard to watch and get into. I prefer 8 games myself then 1 good power 5 team then the rest from non power 5 and mid to low level power 5 schools-

I wish y’all would shut up with the bravado talking before Bama goes on another 15 year streak of stomping our azz.

The down year for Bama was losing two Sec road games on the last play of both games. So I don’t think the gumps have really fallen on hard times as some are predicting. We just need to keep elevating our program and not worry about any one else

Possibly true but you do get the vibe that they have been supplanted by Kirby Smart and Georgia.

Quite to the contrary, I believe Saban approaches the twilight of his career with a sense that he has gained the most from it and feels responsibility to leave the SEC and college football better than he found it. But there is chaos afoot, and the NCAA is too weak and compromised to set its house in order.

College football is facing forces that want to destroy it in its current socio-cultural context. NIL was not put upon the NCAA to save college football--it was designed to weaken or destroy it. There were many stipend-based options that would have benefitted more players to a much greater degree, but that was not the goal for the lawyers who forced it on the NCAA.

Players deserve money. A college education (scholarship) isn't what it used to be. Today it is overpriced and has lost its job market value, except in a few fields. Even 20 years ago, less than 5% of college graduates found a job in the field of their degree.

Well, that's a rabbit trail of its own.

But I'll stick with the belief that while we are seeing many of Saban's moves, we are not seeing the board Saban is playing on, nor his opponents.

You can keep hating Saban, but stop and look at how many American traditions, traditions that--however imperfect--formed the woven cloth of our free society and values, have been under attack. Heck--pray for the dude! He's got more influence than any of us over things that are dear to us. Saving competition as an American value is worth more than a dozen NCs.

I disagree. NIL will bring it back. CFB was dying from 2010-2020 because 2-3 programs were all that mattered most years: Usually Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, and a second SEC team (now Georgia). People were getting tired of the lack of parity. As a Tennessee fan, it got frustrating to be honest seeing us lose 60-7 to Alabama in games that were not competitive. It made me wish for an NFL model that balanced or limited recruiting. Now with NIL, programs like Nebraska with big fanbases but are down can now pay to get players and create more parity.

I dont know how you can say college football was dying.

I truly believe nick wanted to win another championship at bummer to trump Bear Bryant's total number there but I don't think he will make it as he has gotten so use to winning and getting his way. He is a little whiny ass and take in consideration his age. It is time for him to go to the Lake for good.

You seem to forget bummer really could have two more losses to Texas and Texas A&M last year. They got bailed out with two controversial calls in both games. Young was sacked in end zone but wasn't called a safety which really would have changed that outcome and (loss of texas qb to injury) and in Texas A&M game on last play - bummer deployed their usual defensive back pass interference play on A&M receiver but wasn't called by the bummer goons to end the game. I believe A&M was on bummer one yard line at the time.

I think Saban retires only after he wins one more, passing Bear at Bama. (Or, unlikely, things get to where is legacy is starting to tarnish)
