Alabama Names Sarkisian OC

Yes it's a surprise especially considering that Sark still can't say no to the bottle.

Hopefully he can stay sober..it will help without the pressure of running a program and with him knowing that if he fails here he might never get another job in football again..he is still a young coach at 42, same age as Kiffin

I'd be willing to bet lil nicky dips into the bottle quite a bit himself. Kinda looks like Johnny majors and Joe namath had a kid, I'm just throwing it out there

Congrats to Sarkisian. I hope that he can continue with his sobriety. That's a pretty scary situation to be going into, that early in recovery.

For those of you who think this is an occasion for joking, I hope you never have anyone near and dear (much less yourself) who is struggling to recover from addiction.

is not a joke, the man has been and is fighting some very bad demons. Making that point isn't joking about it.

I'll give Saban credit for one thing, he tends to keep his thumb on his staff. I mean, I'm quite positive Kiffin probably could have caused a lot of harm at some point or another, but I'd bet Saban was the only person that kept him from doing damage. I'd bet Saban will keep Sark under control.

I won't ever hold Sark's alcoholism against him. It's not an easy situation to be in and I've been there myself. I hope he takes his second chance and runs with it.

However...I do hope he lays an egg October 21, 2017.

I understand, and I think we're saying the same thing, but aside from that, how do you know that Sarkisian "still can't say no to the bottle"? (different subject from joking)

If he has been struggling publicly with continuing drunkenness, I haven't seen it, but then I haven't been looking for it either.

Shoot, I don't know that; do you know that?

In and out of the struggle myself. Sorry if my attempt at humor was offending.

Certainly didn't bother me; I try to advocate for those going through this.

{{{hugs to you in your struggle, it ain't easy}}} -- I'm a woman, so I hope that didn't creep you out. :)

This was the plan when they brought him in I feel sure. Probably won't see much if any change in their offense.

They'll never skip a beat. Good for Saban giving the guy another shot when nobody else would.

I don't think this was a charitable act. Saban's robot heart wanted to send a clear message to Kiffin that this was his last year. He hired Sark on the cheap, gave him an entire season to familiarize himself with the system, and now has an OC desperate to please. Not shocking that Kiffin wore out his welcome. He has talent but clearly rubs people the wrong way.

Hard to say Grand. You never know what might have happened and never got reported. Whole different world down there.

I won't disagree. How about "Saban keeps a lid on that program pretty tight" instead?

Either way, I feel like Sark has far less baggage than Kiffin when it comes down to it.

Offense wont change. Its Sabans system. Hmmm, that kind of sounds familiar. Of course because its Saban, its ok.

I'm not sure I agree with that. Suing a former employer for firing you after you showed up to work drunk is not exactly being accountable.

Personal issues aside, Sark wasn't in trouble with the NCAA like Kiffin was. Or under the microscope.

I thought he was stupid to sue USC over the matter.

I don't know any details except that he was fired right after seeking a leave of absence for rehab. Maybe USC attempted to terminate him with no severance pay. When a coach gets fired for losing too much, they usually get buyout pay. Many employers are supportive of employees taking such LOAs. The suit was about severance/ buyout pay. It's gone into arbitration for settlement, so information isn't available now.
