Yes it's a surprise especially considering that Sark still can't say no to the bottle.
is not a joke, the man has been and is fighting some very bad demons. Making that point isn't joking about it.Congrats to Sarkisian. I hope that he can continue with his sobriety. That's a pretty scary situation to be going into, that early in recovery.
For those of you who think this is an occasion for joking, I hope you never have anyone near and dear (much less yourself) who is struggling to recover from addiction.

They'll never skip a beat. Good for Saban giving the guy another shot when nobody else would.
I'll give Saban credit for one thing, he tends to keep his thumb on his staff. I mean, I'm quite positive Kiffin probably could have caused a lot of harm at some point or another, but I'd bet Saban was the only person that kept him from doing damage. I'd bet Saban will keep Sark under control.
Couple of pretty good, brief articles:They'll never skip a beat. Good for Saban giving the guy another shot when nobody else would.
I won't disagree. How about "Saban keeps a lid on that program pretty tight" instead?
Either way, I feel like Sark has far less baggage than Kiffin when it comes down to it.
I don't know any details except that he was fired right after seeking a leave of absence for rehab. Maybe USC attempted to terminate him with no severance pay. When a coach gets fired for losing too much, they usually get buyout pay. Many employers are supportive of employees taking such LOAs. The suit was about severance/ buyout pay. It's gone into arbitration for settlement, so information isn't available now.I'm not sure I agree with that. Suing a former employer for firing you after you showed up to work drunk is not exactly being accountable.
