Saban just does what he wants. Not daunted by personal issues in the slightest among his staff. Basically running a rehab clinic for various addictions.

I don't think this was a charitable act. Saban's robot heart wanted to send a clear message to Kiffin that this was his last year. He hired Sark on the cheap, gave him an entire season to familiarize himself with the system, and now has an OC desperate to please. Not shocking that Kiffin wore out his welcome. He has talent but clearly rubs people the wrong way.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Saban had his mind made up midseason that this year was Kiffin's last and started grooming Sark then. Kiffin is lying in his press conference when he said if he didn't get the FAU job he'd be back at Alabama. His contract is up, they were tired of each other, and this was it.

I'm really not sure it matters who the OC is. I'm tempted to think I could be the OC and they'd still win the SEC. Through the wins and the work that he's already put in, the program basically runs on autopilot. Saban would freak out if you described it that way (he'd say you always have to keep working, it's "the process," etc) but he can just pick and choose the players he wants and the system is so ingrained in the coaching staff.
