Alabama vs. Georgia State

Just curious why GS has never had a football team, this is a large school.

It's historically been a commuter school. Most commuter schools don't do athletics on a big enough scale to include football. Cf. George Mason up in northern Virginia; it's got over 30,000 students and a basketball team that made it to the Final Four. But no football team.

GSU has been building dorms and generally trying to make itself more of an on-campus school; adding football is part of that.

Have they actually built dorms on campus? When I was in school they were doing a joint venture on some dorms with Ga Tech, but they weren't really on campus.

The Olympic dorms next to 75/85 on the Tech Campus were given to GA State after the Olympics to use as Dorms. State handed over to Tech a few years ago.

Anybody notice the sparse crowd when the camera showed the end zone?

I don't think Ga State has anything at all to be ashamed of, from that game or this season.

6-5 is nothing to be ashamed of from a first year program. I think Curry is a great guy for the job at hand, and given the sheer amount of talent in and around Atlanta, they should be a FCS power soon.

If they could just become the place where Tech/UGA washouts and nonqualifiers go, they'd win a lot or games.

They opened that big dorm on Piedmont a few years ago; I think I remember reading that it holds something like 2000 students. I don't know if it's technically on campus, but it's no more than a block or two away. It's as on campus as you can probably get down there.

Georgia State looks pretty well coached, at least to me. They just weren't big or talented enough to control the LOS.

They started to look okay as bama got down to their 3rd string, which says something. GState will be an fcs contender before long.
