I just spoke with Albany transfer Jared Verse. The defensive end met with Rodney Garner late yesterday evening after he returned from a Syracuse official visit.

Verse has also visited with UNC, Iowa, and Nebraska

Verse said he was impressed with Garner's knowledge of the game and experience. Football will be the biggest factor in his decision. Scheme, coaching, depth chart will all be key in the decision.

Verse isn't sure where he will visit this weekend but he will visit somewhere. He's sorting though that now. He would like to make a decision before Christmas so he's ready to roll first of January. Said he could go to a school he's never visited because he can do virtual tours and all of that kind of stuff.

Coaches Hot Seat 2021

Dino Babers is on the hot seat for sure. If Verse really checks things out and can team up with Garner and Tim Banks, he could prove himself playing in the SEC and be an NFL prospect. Anyway good luck to him as he makes his decision. He certainly could not go wrong joining the Vols immediately.

One downside would be if Garner is looking for immediate impact

Things are moving so quickly for Verse he talked to 247Sports while driving to nearby Syracuse for a visit. It will be the first of many visits for Verse. In the near future he hopes to visit Iowa, Houston, Purdue and Tennessee. The Boilermakers and Cougars have offered. He’s sill hoping he earns offers from the Hawkeyes and Vols. Of his Iowa interest, Verse described it as “heavy.”

“I’m meeting up with the coach later this week, and I think he’s going to offer me right then,” Verse said.

When thinking about a timeline to decide, Verse said he wants to be enrolled at his next school in the spring. He’d like to announce his choice by middle to late-December.

why is that?
I'm not sure what you're asking ?
It's my understanding we can only look at 7-10 transfers. Would love to know or even see the Coaches board of what they feel our real needs are on Def. Garner may need more immediate impact at other positions. Since the Coaches were able to pow wow this weekend, it'd be great to know their thoughts about how many and needs regarding transfers.

I believe you are thinking over the 25 limit. We took 10 transfers last year because they had the available scholarships.

Try not to do much thinking and would appreciate any input. My understanding is we have 68 returning scholarships(give or take), some of those will not return. We have 16 commitments or 17 if Webb is counted even tho it's not official yet. Limit is 85 correct ?

I don't think they changed the rules about transferring from FCS to FBS. He should be able to play immediately without counting against the portal as long as UT fits him under the 85 limit

When Albany University defensive end Jared Verse went in the transfer portal, he expected he would from a few schools. But for the defensive end with 3 years of eligibility left it’s been more than a few schools.
“It was a little overwhelming the first day or two. I didn’t expect that much,”
“My family has been a huge help. I have been getting their input on schools and just talking things out with them like where should I visit and what did you think of what this coach said and stuff like that.”
For Verse the reason for transferring was a simple one.
“I want more competition,” Verse said. “I want go against guys who are all going to the NFL.”
Over the weekend, Verse took an official visit to Syracuse. Sunday night he welcomed Tennessee defensive line coach Rodney Garner for a home visit.
“It was obviously my first time meeting him. He’s a smart guy,” Verse said. “He knows what he’s doing. He’s a nice guy. We talked alot of football and we talked about life and his background.”
“I play at a different speed than everyone else. I’m not the strongest or fastest guy. It’s the level I play at. I am intense, I play hard. I chase guys down. Coaches are going to have to tell me to calm down. When I step on the field, I want guys to say to how am I going to block him today.”
Verse said he would like to have a good idea of things by the middle of next week and would ideally like to make a decision before Christmas so he could be ready to go in January.
