There is a very good chance he gets fat and happy after his massive contract.

I would have liked to had him back but i realized he was going to want huge money. You have to look at it like this, he is going to want a long term big money deal, he may have anywhere between 2 and 4 years left playing at the level he has (2 to 3 most likely) and that is if he stays healthy, something he hasn't been able to do the past two years and it will only get worse. Looking at it this way leads me to think the money would be better spent elsewhere. Especially considering we already have promising young talent on the squad now.

Yea that's what I meant. I want him to stay but it's just so risky with the amount of money they'll have to pay him. Smart business move for AH though.

Yay, let's all go into "he's not signing with us, so now he's obviously a bad player" mode...don't see that enough in sports already or anything...




So if it's true, while it doesnt decimate the titans, it will hurt the presence their front 4 put out and the pressure will be less, meaning you'll see more blitzes by LBs or DBs - something they never had to really do last season. also possible is that either the DBs will have to step up their coverage, or we end up seeing some backs who we thought were good actually exposed next season

As for draft picks, titans will take a DT later in the draft for depth (maybe 2-4 round), no WR in the first (derrick williams from PSU seems like their kinda pick more and more), and probably 1st round will be best player (DE from GA tech or a good OLB) or a CB like the guy from vandy -- feel that one is more likely

I suppose my initial response could be construed as such, but that's not what I meant. Haynesworth definitely wasn't the first nor will he be the last professional athlete to have a career year right around the time their contract expires.

Sorry, yeah I misconstrued that comment, and along with the he'll be "lazy" comment, my mind went that way. Course, I had just spent a while in the recruiting forum though too; it's pretty prevalent in alot of those threads

I view it as more of a natural progression of skills for Haynesworth. It usually takes a while for DTs to make an impact in the NFL and he's always been injury plagued. He was coming on strong before the stomping incident cost him 5 games. After that he was even more motivated to play well, plus he got some specialized training down in Atlanta during his little break. Not to mention, he's been surrounded by more consistent talent the past two years. Is it entirely possible that he fades after getting his next big contract? Sure. But I highly doubt it. He's 27 and may still have not reached his full potential. If I was a player in FA for him, I'd easily give him 6 years and 75 million dollars with 35 million guaranteed. I'd still be wary of his injury history but the reward is just so much greater than the risk IMO.

Given his history, that's not a stretch at all. It's not like this is a high school kid that no one knows about. Haynesworth's issues with conditioning, in addition to all of the other issues, have been well-documented. While he is a game changer, there is certainly a lot of risk involved with signing him to the largest contract for a defensive player in history, which is what it is likely going to take to secure his services. The Titans have a history of erring on the side of caution in these sorts of situations and I don't think anyone is surprised that this is how it went down.

I guess this pretty much means he's gone. I hope the Titans will at least use some cap space to add some quality FAs if they won't be paying Haynesworth.

I don't think it's horrible if the Titans let him go. He's a dominant player, but he is going to demand a monstrous contract. Also, Jacob Ford played very well whenever he was in for Haynesworth, so it's not like they will be left with a huge hole to fill.

I think you mean Jason Jones but I get your point. He did however dominate against a team with a poor offensive line and a quarterback that's been known to hold on to the ball for too long in Ben Roethlisberger.

It was jones. While agree that the Steelers O-line is not great jones was making a splash since the beginning of the season. Our O-line was very impressed with him early in the spring, they commented he was hard to block and had the rare combination of speed and power not often seen. He is raw but has all the upside in the world. Only knock is his youth.

Have to start somewhere and he would be a nice anchor to build the defense around. Al would be miserable there though.
