Albert Haynesworth to test Free Agency

By not paying Haynesworth the money he is asking for, what is the possibility that the Titans use this money on a WR such as Boldin or Houshmanzadeh?

Also, playing devil's advocate here, what good does it do for the Titans to gloat that they are "cap friendly" if they aren't doing anything with that cap room? Resigning Haynesworth would be crucial if the Titan's D still wants to play with the philosophy of stopping the run and getting pressure on the QB w/o the use of the blitz.

But if they don't resign Haynesworth, and they don't go after Boldin or Houshmanzadeh, what good is it to be "cap friendly?"

Neither would be worth the money they would get paid, especially in kind of offense we run.

Haynesworth is not the only kog in the wheel that allows us to use that defensive philosophy, granted his loss will result in a drop off but i don't think it will be as dramatic as many believe.

It means you don't have to or get rid of three other guys down the road just to keep Haynesworth. Which means that you are less likely to be rebuilding a complete defense in the next couple of years.

Isn't "the kind of offense we run" some of our problem? We need another playmaker on offense other than Chris Johnson. This point can clearly be seen in the playoff game against the Ravens. After CJ went out, our offense was of no threat to the Ravens. Heck, even Ed Reed was only playing about 10 yards off the line of scrimmage. Personally, I would be willing to let Big Al walk and bring in Boldin or Houshmanzadeh. Or, trade up in the draft to take Crabtree, Maclin, or Nicks.

Free agency is not the way for a team like the Titans. It should be handled through the draft. The problem is receivers are a crap shoot. Crabtree, nor maclin will be there and if we trade up we will have to give away way too much for the risk of taking a WR and him being a bust, best they can hope for is to take a sleeper WR in the second or third. They have a system in place and it works for the most part. They don't take chances on high risk picks such as receivers for good reason.

So you mean guys like Chris Davis, Paul Williams, Courtney Roby, and Brandon Jones? Agree or disagree, but the Titans NEED A WR. The above mentioned players were a "crapshoot" however, a commodity like Boldin and Houshmanzadeh are not. The Titans are in a position right now to win a Super Bowl. Our defense, with or without Haynesworth, is one of the best in the league. But you can't keep putting the pressure on these guys to hold opposing teams to 10-13 points per game while our offense struggles. Chris Johnson is our offense. LenDale cannot carry the load. No one else on the team is a serious threat to opposing defenses. Old Man Kerry has a great arm and the leadership to get us a Super Bowl title, but he needs a "go-to reciever." IMO, if we don't sign Haynesworth, we need to go after Boldin or Houshmanzadeh. If we do sign Haynesworth, we need to trade up to secure at least Hakeem Nicks. If there is a glaring need at a particular position, WR is it without a doubt.

Chad Johnson, Housmanzadeh and Boldin could be available. TJ could be the easiest for the Titans to get. Any of the three would be an upgrade and Johnson or Boldin would be huge.

The problem with any of those receivers you mentioned is what are you going to get? Both had a legit wr on the opposite side. I agree we need a wr, just not sure either of the guys you mentioned are the right fit, in other words I believe Fisher would be concerned that they could become a cancer to this team.

I do not know so this is a serious question, how much would either of these guys demand on the market?

Trading up to get Nicks may be the best of these ideas IMO. We have the cap room, with or without Haynesworth and our team is pretty solid otherwise. The two key additions I think we make this year (maybe first and second round) are db/cornerback and DE. I wouldn't have a problem if they did go wr, even if it is somewhat of a crapshoot, as long as the wr was a speed type guy who was a threat down field.

Now all the fans wondering why we didn't offer Haynesworth the money can relax, word I get is we did offer him enough to make him the highest paid DT, he obviously wanted more and got it. All those saying we don't pay for the big players can now thank their lucky stars we didn't hamstring ourselves with a contract on Haynesworth similar to what he got in Washington.

Thats too much money to pay anyone, he'll be missed, but he would have saddled us with cap problems for years.

This came out days before free agency started and Al's agent was seen meeting with Daniel Snyder. There is some pretty obvious tampering going on here IMO.

It kind of puts the Titans at a loss in terms of negotiating when Al knows he can get more elsewhere. The tampering rule is there for a reason. Does this go on frequently? I just can't believe they aren't making a bigger fuss about this.

I never expected to resign him anyway, so it's not about that. It's just that the rules are in place for a reason.
