It's still disrespectful, but why in the world did it take this long for the cameraman to clarify the story?

Better yet how did it get so out of hand to start with?

That's what I'm getting at. If the cameraman said this morning that it was unintentional, he obviously knew Saturday afternoon that it was unintentional which would have made it a gross incident, but definitely not newsworthy.

On top of that Fulmer said he investigated the story and still punished Toeina. So does that make Fulmer overzealous? Or did he investigate like he said he did? Either way Fulmer comes out smelling bad in this story.

Toe also threw his helmet and yelled at the camera man cussing him. I don't think that makes Fulmer look bad. I think that I've heard there have been other incidents with Toe. If you ask me, this needs to be the start of a long line of discipline measures. Fulmer needs to toughen up and get this program back under control.

Toeina was punished for leaving his helmet on the field.

Let's see of Gandy will be punished as well.

Toe quit the team midseason and left during practice. It was after an argument with Jimmy Ray Cyrus.

Fulmer left practice and ran after him to keep him from quitting. I heard that story weeks ago.

Toe has not had any discplinary issues other than this that I am aware of...oh yeah, but he did cuss out the camera man who probably did stick the camera in his face like a typical camera man.

I really don't think so. I think the fact that Toeaina threw a temper tantrum and left his helmet on the field and then went off in a huff and ended up spitting on somebody is still pretty bad. When it comes down to it, people over the age of 2 aren't supposed to even accidentally spit on people.

I agree with you their, GAVol. I'm just saying I think the media has bent this thing way out of shape.

When the smoke has cleared and the facts are stated without conjecture, we're left with:

1. Two or three players who were frustrated after losing to Vandy.

2. One or two left their helmet on the field.

3. One spit "toward" a cameraman after using foul language.

We're talking about one or two college students reacting after (possibly) the worst season in Tennessee Football history. It is what it is, nothing more. Punish it and move on. We don't have to psychoanalyze the deal.

When Gary Lundy started using his position to slander Tony Harris, where was the media outrage? That was something worth getting riled over.

He may have been spitting and the guy happened to be in the area.  That's very different then spitting at someone.  Like it or not, football is full of spit.  If he spat at the guy that's one thing but it's no sin if he was just spitting.

You're probably right. It was purely coincidence that Tennessee had just been embarassed by Vanderbilt after a horrendous season, he had thrown and left his helmet on the field, and he had cussed the very same cameraman . . . . at the moment that an intolerable quantity of saliva had accumulated in his mouth and begged immediate disposal.

Like it or not, he spit and it hit somebody. And, you know what? I'd be personally offended even if he was just spitting on the field in disgust. That's the house that Neyland built, my Alma Mater, and the proud home of many outstanding students and athletes long before Albert set foot on the Hill. It's bad enough that the team is an embarassment in terms of performance, but this public display of its immature and disgraceful character only tells us more of what we already knew about this team and certain of its members.

My point is about whether or not he was spitting at the guy or not.

It's easy for us to judge and be offended and righteous about the actions of the player.

He shouldn't have thrown the helment, cussed at the guy or spit at him.

I'm not excusing the actions just suggesting that the act on it's own is not some desecration of a holy place (if he just spit in disgust but not at the guy) - it was likely the result of a tremendous amount of frustration from a season of frustration. It shouldn't go unpunished but I won't condemn the man either.

How many of us have cussed, slammed a fist down, hit something, threw something when something bad happened in a game. Did you desecrate your home when you did this, betray your family, etc. How many have made comments on the board during the game (called players bums, etc.) in a moment of frustration. Did you desecrate the Vol Nation? Should you be banned?

It becomes the credibility question. Had Fulmer been cracking down on outbursts like this and others long ago, we might not be in the situation we're in now AND Fulmer wouldn't be seen as acting too much or little too late.

Waiting until the team has let loose to this point to start cracking down makes people suspect Fulmer for overreacting or trying to compensate for years of lost discipline.

I don't think there is any question that CPF has used his "get out of jail free" card on this season. It's just hard to believe that the program has degenerated to this point.

Not really. If you ask Fulmer, RS was a great OC, the staff has won a lot games around here, CPF has built up a lot of equity, the schedule has been tough, and they've had a lot of serious injuries.

Heck, after hearing that, I don't think anything is wrong. 4-7 aint that bad after all.

This story about the Big Al luggie, reminds me of the Seinfield episode where Krammer and Newman thought they were hit by a luggie from a Yankee player walking by after a game. The jumbotron dude, should have yelled, "I'm Hit" and fallen over. :yahoo:

Won't happen, Phil has already said Gandy did not leave his helmet.

After years and years (and years) of careful research I have concluded there is a strong positive correlation between volume and um er let's call them expressions of dissatisfaction :biggrin2:
