Alden Hill? Picket?

I dont have much news but I can confirm definitively that Pickett is not getting cash on the side. I bought his ps3 off of craigslist a couple weeks ago. He said he's around 205-210 now and expects to compete for PT. Tough task, yes, but loved the confidence!

I would be very surprised if Alden is not playing 2nd or 3rd team RB this year!

Especially if he is bigger than last year and still breaking tackles!

Alden Hill's future at UT will be on special teams or transferring somewhere he will actually get to play. Pickett will probably in the rotation but the lions share of the carries will go to Lane and Jalen Hurd.

Hey coach. think scott will get any carries they said in ten media he was pretty good.

I guess this is the time of year where we throw the first and second year SEC backs to the wolves for high school seniors who, six months ago, were toting the rock against 180-190 lb. high school linebackers.

Anyone remember when Montario Hardesty became an afterthought because Bryce Brown and David Oku were coming to Tennessee......anyone? :search:

Anyone remember the days when Raijon Neal was moved to slot because Tom Smith and Marlin Lane were going to takeover as a one-two punch at the tailback position......anyone? :search:

:stop: We have an entire spring and summer to determine whether Alden Hill should transfer.

For the record, if Alden is still sitting at 255 and running a 4.6 after spring ball, this coaching staff will find that locomotive a role on this team.

Alden will be on ST & be a blocking back with certain packages, Picket will rotate in at slot.

Devrin moved back to HB for a reason. He & Lane are the only two with 'Experience'.

Scott will likely redshirt along with Paulk.

Hurd will be the Big ? Heading into Spring practice. I highly doubt he redshirts.

Hurd will NOT redshirt unless he gets hurt. You don't redshirt a 5*. I seriously doubt Scott will redshirt. Paulk will because his knee probably won't be healed until half way though the season or longer.

I'm guessing by the end of the O&W game,we will have a good idea of the pecking order and who will be redshirting.

I thought Hill should have played more last year verses Tom Smith. Maybe he got in CBJ dog house about something.

Pickett: IDK

Competitiion is a good thing!!!

Just remember, you always have a few underanked players rise to the top (Sutton) and you usually have late bloomers that make great leaps from one year to the next. So don't rule out these guys or Summerhill for that matter.

You never know, Peterman might be the next one to take that great leap. I hear he is really chisled up now.

Quote from last spring

I think Alden will some surprise some folks this year.. He had a lot of potential last year, but we stuck with Neal instead.

Yes, and there are reasons why the coaches stuck with Neal over Hill.

This......

It is amazing, this place has unreal expectations for freshman, then throw them under the bus as a complete bust/flop when they dont win a major football award as a true freshman and throw all the same expectations onto another new freshman. I remember reading on here marlin lane and tom smith were going to be similar in our offense to reggie bush and lendale white (apparently they completely made up in their minds that marlin lane was some little quick shifty scat back). I have seen Jalen Hurd compared to eric dickerson no less than 20 times on this site since he committed. They literally either have to be one of the best college football players of all time by their true sophmore years or they wont meet your expectations and probably need to transfer. Dewayne Hendrix and Joe henderson better get ready to show out because andrew butcher and dylan jackson are about to be bustin heads the next reggie white and bruce smith no doubt.

The comparisons of Hurd to Dickerson have pretty much been only because of stature/height and running style. Don't recall anyone saying Hurd better be as good or better than Dickerson by the time he's 19 or Volnation's gonna hate him and he better get out of town.

As big as he is with running back speed we could look at him at linebacker. He might be tremendous at that position.

Some of y'all need to temper your expectations. Marlin Lane will start this year, He averaged over 4.5 yards a carry last season. I do see Jalen some carries. His carries should increase throughout the season. Scott won't see the field unless Marlin or Devrin goes down. These are freshman transitioning to the SEC.

Lane has to get over the fumbles. He's had them every year, including last year.

According to ESPN, he has no fumbles the last 3 years. 296 carries, nearly 1500 yds.... 0 fumbles.

ESPN stats and my eyes are at odds then.

Perhaps it's fumbles lost? Wasn't really disputing, just surprised that ESPN had him with no career fumbles. Again, maybe he's never lost one?

I think their stats are just off. The fumble in the Kentucky game this year was recovered by Kentucky. He's lost other fumbles before as well. Lane likes to run with his arms and the ball away from his body instead of tucked in -- that's been his biggest issue with balls getting knocked out, imo.

When he keeps those wings of his tucked in his speed and explosiveness is unreal.
