AlGores Doomsday Countdown

Actually, Gore isn't exactly going out on this limb alone. While they don't refer to it as the Earth cooking, many of the world's top scientists researching global warming have supposedly drawn the conclusion that even if the world stopped 100% of green house gas emissions immediately that the amount of green house gases already in the atmosphere would still result in the polar ice cap completely melting within the next 40 to 50 years. I haven't read Al Gore's book, nor do I plan to do so. However, my guess is that he made some reference to the conclusions drawn by many of these scientists (although it sounds like he is saying that we have another 10 years to totally eliminate green house gas emissions), and that Rush has twisted that statement into saying that the Earth is going to cook. Obviously, saying that the Earth is going to cook, or anything similar to that, sounds and is ridiculous. I'm a fan of Rush Limbaugh. However, like most political talk show hosts, he often twists the facts. As far as global warming is concerned, apparently most scientists that have seriously researched the issue say that there is no longer any debate about whether global warming is a real phenomenon. They claim that it is now established scientific fact.

We had a great debate on global warming about a month back. We had are extremists either way but the consensus was that global warming is real, but not to the effect people would have you believe.

Like any thing else it is a political/business tool to get the almighty $$$$$.

Beside we need global warming from the Ice Age we had in the 70's.......... :birgits_giggle:

A show that I watched on global warming recently was pretty alarming. They showed satellite pictures of the polar ice cap now versus 20 years ago (it was astonishing how much of the ice cap has melted in that time period), and they were in Greenland and showed how the glaciers in Greenland had receded two or three miles in the past 10 to 15 years.

I can show you plently of pictures, especially Gore's favorite of the Upsala Glacier...........

Do you know why it is melting? Because most of the trees around the glacier have been cut down.

Since his defeat by George W. Bush in 2000, Gore has traveled the globe with his bar graphs, staging event after event for small, invited audiences. Free of charge. And he's presented one version or another of this slide show, by his own estimation, a thousand times.

Hmmmm, thousands of flights around the world. Way to waste fossil fuels there Al

Wouldn't an streaming video or someother web-based presentation method be more "earth-friendly" :biggrin2:

I don't see trees in either picture....looks to far above a tree line. Not sure if that is the case.

In my eyes, global warming isn't a Democrat vs. Republican issue. It's a people vs. Earth issue.

Common sense will tell you that's it's happening and it's not getting any better, but I realize that it's hard for some of you to tap into that common sense because of political beliefs.

I don't deny the "common sense" as you call it. However, actions like the Kyoto treaty which was as much of a political strategy to transfer wealth as it was an environmental strategy are where the problem lies.

Too many are using GW as a lever to further political goals.

As much as you've lamented the use of fear via terrorism as a lever; the same is done with GW.

I say let George Washington rest in peace. That was a long time ago.

 He showed us that cutting down trees just for fun is what America is all about.

Any truth to the rumor that his teeth were in fact made from the same cherry tree he so mercilessly chopped down?

Hey Rush, here boy...

Actually this is going to benefit me and my family. With the melting polar ice cap and rising sea level, instead of our six hour drive to Destin, Florida each year, I figure the new beach will be about Montgomey, reducing my drive to about three and one half hours. :p

Well, if God created the earth, and I believe He did, He is certainly capable of maintaining it, despite what doomsday prophets say. I remember getting scared as a 7 year old child at a commercial on TV that predicted we would be out of fossil fuels within 20 years (from that commercial date) and having bad dreams because of it. I am now 41 years old. You do the math. Do I advocate abusing the earth or its resources? No. The Bible does say the world will end in fire, but I don't think it has anything to do with global warming.

I can remember the Cuban missle crisis in 1962 and having nuclear bomb drills in grade school with the teachers making us get under tables and desks. People were digging holes in the ground like gophers!
