"THAT'S how it looks when you WANT the football" my thoughts exactly, thought that last week against SC are WR's don't look hungry for the ball, if it doesn't hit them in the hands(unless you're anderson, he does better when the ball isn't thrown right inti his hands) it's like "oh well, throw me another, I can't stretch out that far."

Their unwillingness to use their bodies really diminishes their size and strength. Truth be told the Vols should be able to throw jump balls down the field all day.

I'm sorry, but at this point you just have to laugh. I'm beyond sad, angry, frustrated and embarrassed. It's just comical at this point and there's nothing more to do or say. I hope we beat the remaining teams, but wouldn't be shocked if we didn't.

This is just one of those seasons that just about every program has at some point. It just sucks ours happens when we were ranked in the top 5 at preseason.

This season needs to be over. No bowl game, just over.

Our WR's lack the desire to spread out to catch the ball. Here is what I mean. According to Mr. Webster

Main Entry: hor·i·zon·tal
Pronunciation: "hor-&-'zän-t&l, "här-
Function: adjective
1 a : of, relating to, or situated near the horizon b : parallel to, in the plane of, or operating in a plane parallel to the horizon or to a base line

Why did it look like those deep ball passes wuld have been caught if the recievers went HORIZONTAL to get the ball.

Seems to me like they were looking for YAC instead of catching the ball.

Hell, if you run 20+ yards to catch the ball, if you have to stretch and get it, it's 20+ you didn't have before.

Am I the only one noticing this :dunno:

No USAF, I think it's pretty plain that we just don't make plays. I don't expect our receiver to catch everything they touch, but it's unbelievable how we don't seem to make any difficult catches on the deep balls.

BS

If the reciever laid out and TRIED he would have caught it.

I was screaming at the tv for him to jump. He wanted to catch it and make a big play. Maybe if he just realized if he caught it then it would be a big play.

But you are right, we don't make any catches on deep balls. We had the oppertunty (Spelling?) tonight though.

USAF- it's awful hard for anybody on our team to understand how to play the deep balls when our HC has absolutely no depth in that regard...

We had the deep balls. But they didn't go out and get em. That's all I wanted to say. I don't think our recievers are playing with passion..

Although CJ took a good few hits that made me flinch (While holding onto the ball).

:biggrin2: Exactly, correct, hit the nail right on the head, blah, blah, blah. New too this post, love the Vols, hate too lose, hate even more players who are not prepared. IMO you are exactly right and we need to put the blame where it belongs. I can't believe that #83 (I will in no way try and spell his name) is that much better than the players at UT. One reason, he's a baseball player who plays football in the off season  Now are you going to tell me that centerfielder/pitchers are better than the players we have recruited. No, impossible, unbelieveable...The real problem is no one is coaching these players...No one is getting in their mess kit when the foul up. Times have got to get better for we can't get any worse...Shakestick

Not at all, I'm new too this post, read it for years, thougt I would throw my two cents in too the pot and see what happens. I've noticed the lack of effort, skill, desire, but most of all I think that what really bothers me the most is the lack of COACHING that I see in certain areas of the football teams I have grown to love/hate at times. Today was a perfect example of how it can be done and how we have been taught or not taught how to do it. First example is #83 for the Irish... great catches, desire, effort, and skill. The only problem with this player is he plays baseball in the spring  Our example you have already done a beautiful job of explanning his lack of effort, skill, desire or really is it his lack of COACHING. I can't believe that we do not have better players than ND. I can believe that we have players that are not as well coached as players of ND. That my friend will have too change before we will be able to play to the level we have so richly enjoyed. Thanks for reading my babblilng. Please, not another coaching thread. Welcome to the board. But we are tired of that. Good point. But I blame this on the players for not trying to catch it.

:D Hi I am new here. Have been a tenn. fan many years. Our team did play better today. We did throw enough long balls to maybe win the game if our recievers stretched out a little.

My thoughts:

Well, first off, we lost.  Again.  4 in a row is something I don't even remember, since I hadn't even really started watching UT football the last time it occurred.  Had we a lack of talent and low expectations, I could probably swallow it, but the pill is a little bitter given the preseason hype and the supposed "talent" available.

the effort doesnt seem to bad......until you see the effort vandy put out against florida tonight

You look at the difference between our receivers and their receivers...

Ours just ran and stretched as they ran....hit the fingertips and bounced into the dirt.

Their receivers lunged for the ball, made one-handed catches, and made grabs that almost looked inhuman.

These receivers all had about the same skills on paper. But theirs were well coached, prepared, and hungry. They gobbled up everything that came their way. Our guys looked like they were afraid of getting hit or getting their uniforms dirty.

I'd say if you keep catching the ball you can keep playing. You drop a catchable ball, you sit out and stay sititng out.

I agree the receivers need to put forth a little effort & make plays, watching ND receivers go after stretch dive make 1 handed catches just makes one wander about our receivers,
They need to show heart some hustle some go get it attitude
get TOUGH!

I am grasping for straws but it just seems to me we have been snakebitten this year and have had absolutely no luck at all.

A tipped pass drops inches away...a fumble bounces right to the opposition...our defender slips and #83 ran 70 plus yards down the sideline.

I'm serious...I usually discount this type stuff, but good grief, we get no breaks whatsoever it seems.

Not our year...and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if we lose another one.
