All things fishing thread

Sorry if you wanted to misinform others or just passed along what you heard... either way I Wasn’t trying to be an arse or nothing just wanted you and others to know Well you know internet and truth stuff🤫
It was a beautiful fish and all but not close to a world record type fish...
I actually read the article last year in a fly fishing mag about the girl that caught that fish (and several other nice browns )and it was about 36 inches and based on my estimation probably weighed 22-24 lbs. btw browns in the 30 lb+ range are fairly regularly caught in Arkansas And Michigan. New Zealand or Iceland is where the next world record fish will probably come from.

The TN record Brown was caught on the Clinch and weighed 28lb 12oz. I wonder how long that'd take for me to land on a 7x tippet. I'm thinking a couple days.

Arctic char are native to Iceland. They are a fine fish to catch and to eat. What is it with the English having to introduce certain species all over the world?
Cliff notes version my son is a fisheries manager for a private company and I paid a lot for him to learn stuff in college. He had a published scientific research paper on the distribution, decline, and reintroduction of the southern strain (Appalachian brook trout) vs northern strain which is almost exclusively what is found in the high waters of NC Va and Tn.
A brookie is actually a true char and not a trout but its my favorite to eat of all the "trout" but an artic char from Alaska cooked over an open fire is my best shore lunch ever.
It was actually the Germans and their brown trout that were brought here in the late 1800s then rainbows a few years later that started it. There are very few pure strain southern brook trout due to the introduction of browns, rainbows and in the 30s the northern strain brookies. They just couldn't compete with food or environment and only survived in remote isolated pockets of hard to reach areas in the Smokies. The northern strains were introduced due to the vast deforestation of the smokies due to logging at the time no one knew there was a genetic difference.
After looking at it that wasn't cliff notes at all but it wasn't really imperialism @golfballs since they have only been here 135 years or so.

20200519_155401.jpgwe went out mostly joy riding today, it was raining, but had our stuff and got to fish a little. Just caught some bream, but that beats sitting in the house.

Hey Joe Vol. I live in Johns Creek Roswell area. Do you know much about the fishing on this side of Lanier? I’m looking for some places to take my kids. We’ve tried a few ponds around the area but it’s hit or miss. I grew up fishing on the TN river so the Hooche seems alien to me. Thanks. I’ll hang up and listen.

I haven't personally fished down that way, but have friends that do. I've alwats heard great things about below the dam. I'll talk to my buddy at church tomorrow night, he's fished about all of it. I'll get some tips for you hopefully. There is some good fishing on my side that isn't too far. Don Carter state park has some docks you can fish from, it's just a bit outside of Gainesville.

Those things are awesome bait for smallmouth too. If I’m floating a big creek or small river, I’ll take my cast net and catch a dozen or so. I put them on a hook.... no split shot and let them swim as they wish.

I caught two trout last year on the Caney that threw me for loop.... they were both 12”-15”....has the appearance of a brown, but a lot of the coloration of a brookie. They looked like a hybrid.... me and the two guys I was with were all perplexed

I've heard other people say they were good bass bait. I'm gonna have to try it.

Tiger Trout. Used to catch a one off on the Housatonic. Believe they're sterile.

Looks like you’re about to kiss a striped bass, Joe. Did you throw that one back? What about that catfish?
