Whoa, I figured SEC fans would be a little more knowledgeable on your competition. Air Force has been a much better football team then Navy in the past couple decades. We compete with much better teams then Navy ever faces. The last three years they have gotten some fluke wins over us but it had been a very long time since they beat us before then. Air Force owns Navy!
Remember, some SEC fans on here were silent. It's not all of us.

Headin' up Thursday night. Lookin' forward to getting my son (8) to the game. Don't think we'll be lookin' past anyone this year. Last year is still fresh in the memories.

I hate to say it future vets, but this is football. It's a sport. Tennessee will outmatch AF at every position. If our speedy, bigger, stronger men get beat at any point in the game, I'll plant blue begonias and white daisies in my backyard next Spring.

AFA may own Navy, but as Vol fans can tell you, it's all about what have you done lately.

Very important to indoctrinate the children into UT Football early.Have fun hohen!

I was at the 85 Wake Forest game, we only won by a couple of points after beating the No. 1 ranked AU Tigers the week before. I don't expect this to happen, but you never know.

The only thing that can stop the U.S. Air Force (Contrary to our theme song) are the Tennessee Volunteers.

D-Mo, knock my future leaders on their butts (LIO:whistling: ) and never look back.

GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What concerns me is Harrell AND McBride the power rushers they are, can they be disciplined and patient....and read the qb and contain? As far as showing the Gators too much, I used to be one of those types to hide a playbook from opponents. But heres the thing. An offense that executes a play well is hard to defend even if you know whats coming, so I say open it up, the more reps the better. Its more important that the offense knows what its doing and is comfortable with the plays...than it is to hide the option of it from the opponent, IMO.
That hiding the playbook stuff worked in 04 when it was simplified... but we simply switched up between Ainge and Schaeffer, employing polar opposite offensive styles.

idk, Navy has impressed me over the last couple years. Their 4th quarter drive vs. New Mexico a couple years back is still one of the most impressive things I've ever seen.

I'd actually like to show some things... give them a try before throwing it at UF. IMO, if we execute, it doesn't matter if Florida has seen us do it before or not.

AF may be a military academy, but they are by far the best of the three.

In the last two years Air Force has been beaten twice by Navy and split with Army.

well they do run the option, as i have previously stated. we haven't always faired so well.

Ah, but to run that option successfully, they are gonna have to be faster than our D. Which ain't happening!

I hope that me overlooking Air Force doesn't hinder my ability to focus on rooting the Vols on this weekend.

With all due respect to the current state of Air Force Academy football, we should be overlooking Air Force. I know they run the option, and they can be difficult to stop because we have too much speed and we will overrun our assignments, yada, yada, yada. This is not Nebraska or K State running the option in the mid 90s. We should overlook AF for the sole reason that if we overlook them, we will still most likely win the game, be it by 3 or 7 or 21 or 50. We should overlook AF because Cal ran the spread offense and Florida runs the spread. Our defense needs to continue to work wonders against that Spread attack and prove to Urban Meyer (and all the nuts that voted him Coach of the Year) that the spread might work in the WAC with Utah, but it will not work in the SEC. I would rather beat Florida by double digits and edge one out against AF, then mop the field with AF and have the Florida game come down to some last minute miracle.

I don't know about overlooking AF. I mean, you would have to really stink up the joint something awful to lose that game.

But I will say that I am just astounded at some of the posting going on here after the win versus Cal. It was a great win and you showed tremendous potential. Very exciting, yes.

But now people are openly wondering about Ainge for Heisman? Complaining that you didn't jump far enough in the polls (what, 11 spots is too little a move up all at once, in the first week of the season?)

Some folks need to grab on to some reins of reality here. Hey, don't get me wrong, you may beat Florida by 30. You might make the Georgia squad run away like litle girls. But it was one game and you got a long way to go before folks rightfully start getting this carried away.

i'm not going to disagree with you LG, but you got to remember, it's been the better part of two years since we've seen a performance like that...and after last season, and all the off season prognostication and pontification of all the areas we had/have questions marks, seeing them come out and play a near flawless game was pretty astounding. I don't think anyone thought even in best case scenario we'd handle CAl the way we did. I would venture to say that they looked better than any/all best expectations.

so the excitement is warranted, and really needed. it's been a while since we've had anything to be excited about (well since we beat you guys in bball twice last year anyway:p ). If nothing else, the discussions now are about how far can this team go? rather than having even more questions after the 1st game, and that's not a bad thing. ARe we going to lose games? yeah, sure. but winning that game makes a 10 win season much more feasible, and it also makes the UF game like it used to be...it now means something. I don't know that we will beat UF...i think we'll get a much tougher D coming in this game than we had last, but, now anyway, i think we realize we have a much better offense and defense than we could have hoped for this season...

if we beat UF....holy cow. this place will be nuts...and rightfully so.:clapping:
