Alternate uniforms, NIL and recruiting

Yah, NIL would be first consideration. Just as salary/wages are prime considerations for the rest of us when looking for a job.

That doesn't mean other factors don't matter. They do. And can sway a fella in one direction or another when the NIIL money is somewhere close to even between competing programs.

That's where the winning habits of the program, the coaching expertise and reputation, their success getting players into the NFL, the university's reputation in sports and even academics, and a host of other considerations come into play. Even alternate uniforms.

So it's all important, still. How we recruit still matters, and the messages we send, and what we stand for, and so on. Just NIL has the lead spot.

Go Vols!

This all day! I have this conversation on a regular basis. Prost people say winning and money are what matters. While those are most likely the two biggest factors, it does not mean others don’t come into play. The “others” would be like your jobs benefits and extras. It all matters and is way deeper than most people think.

GO VOLS!!!

Green is the color responsible for alternates.......each time they wear one fans can buy new jerseys and shirts which gets the cash registers ringing. I got an email from Tennessee today hocking halloween decorations. Dr Danny knows how to market....

One of the reasons given for alternate uniforms is that it helps in recruiting and that may be true.
But at least two head coaches have implied that NIL money is the primary factor now.

Both Mark Stoops and Chip Kelly have publicly stated same.

Green trumps all other colors
Interesting. It’s been stated that Texas and TAMU pretty much have unlimited NIL money. Wonder why neither team has the #1 recruiting class? Winning trumps everything when it comes to recruiting.

Does it for you? Is there NOTHING that you value more than a salary that's say 15% higher?

Maybe you are projecting your values onto others? But for many of us money is a part of a decision... but it doesn't "trump" everything else.

A&M had the #1 class in the ‘22 cycle. Rumor was that they spent about $30mm in NIL to assemble that roster (although several of those guys have since left)

Winning and money, in that order. The top players have their eye on far bigger money than they'll ever get from NIL, and playing for a successful program that competes for championships will increase their chances of being a high pick at the next level.

I refuse to believe that goofy "alternate" uniforms will sway any top player in making that decision. Players might say they like them, but no one is basing a life changing decision on something so silly. Otherwise, how do schools like Alabama, Michigan, and Penn State manage to be among the top recruiting schools year in and year out?

Money is first. Always. If you're good, you will be noticed, no matter what team you play for .

Are alt unis the end all be all? No but one only has to look at how many of our recruits do dark mode for their Photoshoot to understand that there is a "drip" factor for a lot of the recruits.

No doubt other factors come into play and I didn't mean to imply that. I'm just saying money is the primary factor now and at least 2 head coaches have said that publicly.

Stoops is hollering about NIL to get Kentucky to invest more. But it’s more than NIL, Kentucky has hardly ever competed at the top of the sec in football and that goes long before the NIL, other schools can sell tradition and past championships as well as the total commitment to the program. Kentucky can’t even sell that very well. GBO

This. He made the "football school" comment last year for same reason.

I agree with that 100%. And I wasn’t saying that in reference to your comment. I have had this conversation with lots of people that are against the uniform additions. Money is always the number one factor in this world.

No, money doesn't dictate what I do or define me. If it did I wouldn't have already given away several hundreds of thousands of dollars (about $200,000 to UT) and still live in a modest 2,000 sq foot house.
Then why assume it does for anyone much less everyone else?

OK. You qualified it. Is money the primary factor for you in making decisions about your future?

If not then why assume it is for others?

Everyone will make their own value judgments. Some may even be wise enough to know that greater success at one school over another will more than make up for that initial NIL offer.
