Always a bridesmaid - Never the Bride!

We don't have the brutes inside. Houston gave us fits with their long armed 6'8" athletes. Edey last year with his size.

We aren't getting it done with recruiting solid Centers/Posts.

Our guards have been outstanding.
I like Okpara, but we still need a post guy who can consistently score double figures and get us out of these prolonged scoring droughts that seem to kill us every year.

Don’t know much about JP Estrella, but I’m sure he would’ve helped.

We need a post scorer that can hit buckets in the paint. We need more consistent shooting in general. Sure we can light it up at times but when we’re off we’re off bad and today was the worst. RB teams seem to hit bad scoring droughts. Hard to win a natty or get to the final 4 when you only average around 70 a game. Defense is great but you gotta score. Houston was content to let us shoot three ball all day because they knew we couldn’t do anything inside.

I don’t really care. He will find every which way to criticize our coach. One day, people will realize how good we have had it. People just can’t get over themselves.

We are gonna be fine.

Believe more in our school than the coach. Coaches come and go. Elite programs stay elite. I know we all have battered vol syndrome but I promise there is a reason certain schools keep winning like Duke. It starts from the inside and the AD. We have maybe the best AD in the country. I trust him.

The future is bright.

I'm as disappointed as anyone tonight. Bottom line: Houston is an incredible defensive team and a tough matchup for us inside the paint. They took that away as an option. Coach can see that and devised ways for us to get A BUNCH of good looks outside. That's about all he can do. We shot worse than I would after 3-4 stiff drinks, and we lost.

I feel like the seniors wanted to win this one for Barnes so badly they played tight. It was a great tourney up until that point, some of the best I've seen from Barnes squad. Then EVERY SINGLE PLAYER played like trash until Gainey saved them from more embarrassment. ZZ and Maschack was unusually bad. Think the pressure got to them.
I agree. I think in one sense we were fortunate to get Kentucky in the sweet 16 because we were familiar with them, they are not a great team this year - good but not great, and we were super motivated to beat our hated rival. Our guys poured it all out to get that win . . . And maybe ran out of gas?? Or maybe it was simply Houston is that good.

As a Vol fan since 1979; I am exhausted by the false dawns of „bright futures“. One football Natty and one baseball Natty in 45 years and a whole lot of broken dreams. I might feel better in a few weeks but right now I am just not able to feel anything other than profound disappointment. Time for grieving.

Fan since 87ish here. You forgot the LV. We have maybe the most historic women’s team of all time. Between the 80s to about 2004 we were rolling. Yes, basketball was an after thought but we dominated women’s and football. Just couldn’t get past spurrier a lot of years.

What happened to change that? AD change. What happened that turned us back into TN a few years and suddenly relevant? AD change.

All comes down to the AD. Grieve away though. I get it. But if I’m positive that says a lot lol.

I don't buy the idea of UT never making a Final Four. We just need the right pieces and the right leadership that actually wants UT men's bball to succeed.
Man this is one dumb comment. We have the best leadership in the country with Boyd, Plowman and Dr Danny. So I guess you dont think they don't want Baseball to achieve?

Barnes is the 5 th highest paid coach in the country. We are in the Top 5 in Attendance and fan support. What the hell more can the UT leadership do to make a FF like USC, MSU, Auburn(2) and of all people UGA have managed to do? JFC we have some dumbass fans.

This is the question to ask these morons.
Not advocating getting rid of RB but do you remember when UGA fired a football coach who had a record of 145-51, 2 SEC championships and a 2nd and 3rd place finish in the Final poll.

His name was Mark Richt. You may have heard of his replacement a guy named Kirby Smart? who has 2 NCs to his name.

There is no Kirby Smart equivalent lining up for this basketball job.

Very Disappointing! 15 points in the First Half & Rebounding KILLED us! I love Coach Ric Barnes - But, the VOLS just couldn’t get it done, today……
This was the basketball version of when our football team went to play Ohio State. We hit a “buzz saw” of grown men that we were not prepared for. Simple as that. Terrible last game, very good season.

15ish years huh? To tie a 40 year record?

I’m gonna stick with the opinion that we stuck. The record is 1 and 2 seeds. Not 16 seeds. The 1 and 2 part is the kicker that makes the record damn near infinite.
Georgetown, Michigan, and another school tied for the record at 16 points. Georgetown did it 40 years ago. Michigan did it in 2019 (lost as a 2 seed to Texas Tech 63-44). The other school did it in the last 10-15 years, too. So, yes, the record was tied by 2 schools in the three point era and in the last few years.

We can’t say today was unprecedented. We played like this against UF . . . And had other games where we could not score. All teams struggle to score at times . . . But it is an argument of degree. The extent to which we cannot score when cold is remarkable.
And this always seems to happen to CRB teams in the middle of the tournament
