If I say that this was one of the worst half-court offensive games I have seen from the Vols? We let a severely undermatched team stay with us for most of the game, hardly ever took advantage of our man-to-man advantages, threw sloppy passes out-of-bounds, and missed a ton of easy baskets underneath. If Scotty isn't shooting the three well in the first half, we likely go to the half down to....errrr....College of Charleston.

I wonder what the blind advocates of our current state of coaching will have to say about this game.

Again, I LOVE what CBP has brought to the program. But, at what point does it become painfully obvious that we are clueless when we have to slow down and play offense?

I thought message boards were about discussing the topic at hand. I think if everybody had the same opinion it would be very boring in here. However, I agree with your points.

What a snoozer. I couldn't wait for the half to be over so I could chow down on a couple of chili dogs and some sugar cookies in the RM room.

I will tell you that the one thing this game really should have cemented is the fact that JP Prince is horrible. He does not respect the ball, he is a turnover prone guy who struggles on offense and plays defense sporadically.

He looks like he should be able to play. With Dane Bradshaws brain he would be headed to the NBA draft. It makes his play even more frustrating.

No, you are not being too negative. 17 point wins are a joke. We should win every game by 40+ points.

Dang... that's saying something.

I know, brother, but playing against a team of that caliber, we should have been up 30 at the half with any sort of idea on the offensive end. It's one thing to say you've been contested by defensive fortitude...it's another to say that you can't execute a pass at half-court.

I understand why you are frustrated with the offense, but Vol fans just have to learn that this team is never going to play safe/under control. They are going to make mistakes, but the key is to force the other team to make more mistakes and capitalize off of them.

Agreed.

I didn't get to see this one, and I only listened to the first half... but it sounded exceptionally sloppy. Bert & Bob seemed to blame it on a "lack of energy" coming off the holiday, which immediately made me wonder what country the College of Charleston flew in from today since they apparently weren't coming off a holiday themselves.

The team looked tired. 4 games in 7 days with 2 of those extremely tough in DePaul and Purdue. It's early in the season and they had a slight let down after a tough loss in the tourny. I'll take a 17 point win instead of laying an egg

I was at the game and it was clear that they were either tired or uninterested for much of the game. I'm not particularly worried at this point, even though I would have liked to see a more intense game. They turned on the switch when they needed to do so and got a win. I wish that we could go balls to the wall every game, but with doing so the last two games, the travel and, apparently, a hard practice yesterday, I can see how this happened.

Regardless, it's a 17 point win, 5-1. I'll take it. This has been the first game in which the intensity has really been lacking, so I'll give them a mulligan.

does anybody think bruce will ever go back to the 94' game? I think he said he didn't have the athletes to do it last year.... will we be going back to that?

Charleston was well rested with 1 game in the last 10 days. TN played 4 in 7 days travelling to and from the Carribean. There is a difference.

I think the guards in the next class are actually more conducive to it than Goins and Maze.

I also think the fact that JP Prince keeps showing flashes of being willing to play defense, followed by long streaks of suck is hurting CBP.

Anyone know why we didn't press more?

Hard to press a small team with three guards who are all competent ball handlers. That being said, we should have pressed the size and athleticism advantage to a greater extent and never let them get within striking distance in the second half. We did manage to wear them down late and pull away, but it was a MUCH closer game than it should have been until maybe 5 minutes to play.

THAT being said, CoC isn't a total patsy. When you shoot the three ball very well, as they did for the first 30 minutes or so, you can compete with just about anyone.

...Which is another problem. Despite spurts of defensive intensity, we have been plagued over the past few years by an inability to closely guard the hot shooter(s) [see: Jodie Meeks].

Saying you are "tired" 4 days later is not acceptable. It certainly doesn't bode well when your are expecting a deep tourney run.

You're probably right. I would think most teams will be in "tourny shape" come March. Most are not ready to go to the big dance in Nov.

Ah, I wouldn't worry about this game. It doesn't really bode for anything later on. I think the tired was in conjunction with the type of practice yesterday and that pattern will change during the tournament.

Next week, this game will be completely forgotten. The Paradise Jam with its set up and matchups will be more relevant in building upon for the future.

Agreed, our half court offense is horrible. And this isn't a one game thing. It's been like this for about 2 years now. We have big guys in Chism, Williams, and Hall, but for some reason, Pearl wants to bring them out top to pass the ball around.
