J.P. Prince salutes the crowd when he make's a decent play especially when we're LOSING, or when Hopson makes a layup and begins to swagger and spin like he just hit a game winner? Don't they need to get back on defense?

This team has some serious "ME" issues.

Do you think it’s because they have no identity and EVERYONE is trying to become the identity like Lofton was? The past 3-4 years it's been Lofton Lofton Lofton, and now he's gone, it's like everyone wants that type of recognition and they're willing put their own intrests in front of the teams.

I agree 100%. I hate to say it, but the problem starts at the top. I just hope they are/have not gotten too comfortable with Pearl. Some of the players need to look in the mirror

I like to think we're in the majority. It's childish. Score and then get your butt back on defense.

I have no problem with Prince. He works his rear end off on the defensive side of the ball and I don't mind a little show of ego. Hopson, on the other hand, can't hit a shot inside 15 feet to save his life and plays terrible D. That young guy needs to step up his game. I know he had one great game but one game isn't enough to start acting like you are the man.

I threw up in my mouth after reading this.

I don't think it's comfort as much as it is the caliber of player.

This is really the first time Pearl has had kids who are expected to be the elite by the public. Prior to TN, Pearl had athletes who were either by-passed by the top tier schools or were a slight step down from the elite players in natural ability. When he first came to TN, our program had sank so low that we had similar players here as what Pearl was used to coaching. These types of players have a tendacy to "want" to play as a team to prove a point. (Rather the point be that the big schools shouldn't have passed on me, or rather it be I'm good enough to play with the top athletes.)

Now, Pearl has built back our reputation so that he has top tier rated athletes, and these kids have been told since they started playing sports that they are the "best." It takes a different caoching ability to coach up a player who knows he is in "the best" category. I think Pearl will get them going, but I also think this is something a little new for Pearl.

JaJuan Smith was kinda flashy, so I don't think the identity of the team has changed so much... The reasons they are 12-6 (3-1) is (1) inexperience in the backcourt and (2) tough scheduling. This team will win at least 11 SEC games. Their defense has shown great improvement in just the last few games.

Current RPI rankings have the Vols 19th, with the 3rd toughest schedule in the nation. Included are 3 high quality wins and 1 quality win.

I posted the same thing a couple weeks ago. I hate when JP shoots anything other than a dunk or tip in. I cant stand when Scotty jumps up and down after he hits a shot. Hell you would think with as high as he shoots the ball that he could easily get back on Defense. It looks like he is going to take out a light when he shoots.

Between Hopson and Tatum u can really see the FRESHMEN in the both of them. And if I was Bruce Pearl I would have Maze shooting and making moves all day long in practice. We are in desperate need of a shooter who can shoot a team out of a zone defense!
This year we are missing spot up shooters like JuJuan and Lofton were. If Hopson and Tatum could knock down some shoots from outside then we would be alright, we have lots of size but Defenses are sinkin back because we dont have a 3 point threat!

I agree. I don't have a problem with them showing some emotion if they have just taken the lead after being down or whatever, but just to make a layup or whatever and still be down a good amount is not necessary. I'm not sure what the problem is this year. I mean it's obvious we can't shoot 3's consistently and that we can't play defense, but i'm surprised that CBP hasn't fixed that yet. We still have some time to improve though, hopefully they can get it together come tournament time.

I don't know how many games you have actually watched this year, but...

I've watched all but 1 game this year, and watched all the games last year.
J.P. hustles. He may not make the best play every time, and he may anticipate one move, and the offensive player goes the other way, but he hustles. I'd put him up there in the top 3 for our defensive players, honestly. He gets in there, gets turnovers, but just can't always turn them into points.
But seriously, watch a game and give them all a chance before you say they are unable to do something. Don't watch the game thinking to see something bad. J.P. may make 4 great plays and 1 boneheaded play, but all you see when online is "did you see how J.P. f'd up?!?!?!?!?" He makes spectacular plays, he reads the offenses, and attempts to get in there and mix things up. I'd rather have that than nobody trying to get steals.

I would say that Prince's good plays to bad plays ratio would be more around 1:1...

This is why I watch Duke (a TEAM) and didn't jump on the bandwagon when TN bball started winning some. Don't get me wrong I'm TN to the bone but I can't watch these individuals play.

JP was playing zero defense earlier in the year. How much of that was shoulder/ankle problems - who knows? But the last couple of games you can tell he is working harder at it. He hasn't done the matador thing in a while either. I haven't checked the stats, but I think his mpg have gone up too. It's looked like Bruce has been subbing based on hustle too - so it should say something that JP is seeing as much PT as he is.

I have no problem with showing emotion after a made basket as long as 1) it doesn't hurt the team and 2) the team wins. When the Vols lose it's pretty easy to point to some of the showboating as a problem. Fact is, it's only a problem when they lose.

So you enjoy watching a team that gives cheap shots and texas-titty-twisters when the ref isn't looking?

Prince spends too much time trying to get his face shown on TV after a dunk and then gets beat on D because of it. How many times in the Memphis/Vandy games did he do a pretty average dunk, stare in the crowd and then get the ball thrown over his head for a quick 2 the other way? More times than I care to remember.

Yeah - I'm not sure being a Duke bandwagon fan is something to really brag about. It's actually lower than being a fair weather UT basketball fan.

Anyone that thinks JP hustles, or plays any type of good defense, then they really need to have a x-ray to see if their brain is there. I can't honestly believe that these posters really think this, but if so, it is really just sad.

JP's hustle has improved the last two games. Prior to that, the best description would be piss poor.
