Am I the only one??

I am higher on him than some. I don't expect him to be a superstar, but he is certainly talented enough to have some pretty good success at this level, especially if the talent level around him is good enough.

What does this mean? Did the Vols fail to practice shooting under BP? Does CM have some incredible new system that can help players improve their stroke? Are you familiar enough with CM's offense to be implying that he will get better shots and thus shoot a higher percentage? Are you implying that he will shoot better because he is a year older/more mature (and, if so, what does this have to do with "the new regime")? Or is this just wishful thinking? Please elaborate.

It's based on this from Kent Williams: "First and foremost, to be a good shooter you have to have confidence and, after talking to some of the guys it seems they didn’t know what was a good shot. If you have those doubts in your mind, then it’s hard to be confident with it. They're obviously good enough shooters because they did it in high school and were good enough to make it to this level. We’ve got a lot of good athletes in this league and you have to be ready to get the ball off and can’t wait two seconds for a shot.”

Thats a product of everyone on the team having the green light at all times regardless of where you are on the court or how much time is left on the clock.

Would love to have a guy that could double that percentage and spread the defense. We haven't had one in two seasons.

Your hero's offense is the most to blame for low shooting percentages. When there is no half-court offense, it's very difficult for a shooter to get into any kind of rhythm. I'm not suggesting that he's going to look Loftonesque from three next year, but I definitely think 35%-40% from 3 is doable for Golden. He also has significant potential as a point guard in a real offense like Martin will be running.

1.) Martin runs a motion offense not a middle school modified flex.

2.) Yes, if one has the first clue about basketball, a motion offense run properly will result in better shots than we could get last year with "the toss the ball back and forth for 30 seconds followed by a desperation heave" offense we employed.

3.) No, he won't shoot better because he's older; he'll shoot better because we actually run a cognizable offense that results in open shots.

Yeah point guards never scored in the old days
...
All averaged 18+ for their careers and PGs

I repeat: "A point guard distributes first, but can score when necessary." Never said anything about not scoring. They don't have the "look to shoot and only pass if you get stuck" mentality. Magic was "pass first, drive all the way for the layup if they give it to you"; never was he "force up a horrible shot one on three." He only took 13 shots a game. John Stockton only took 9 a game. Tiny was all the Kings had and cranked a lot of shots. Once again, in my book that's a "lead guard" not a point guard. I think the Bullet you have there is Kevin Porter who only averaged 11.6 points, so I assume you intended somebody else.

When Rose gets the ball, his first thought is how to get a shot (good or bad) up. He might pass to keep the defense honest, or if somebody's wide open. I don't see how this is different from Lebron's approach, or even Jordan's, for that matter. Magic got everybody involved. (I saw him run a fast break off a made free throw, for goodness sakes, ending in a James Worthy dunk.)

Installing any half-court offense will be an improvement over last year and will put players in position to play better and take better shots.

Oh, I get it - we should have fired Pearl years ago to hire Martin, since he is a far superior coach - it all makes sense now. Thanks!!!! GBO
