Am I The Only One?????

I still think it is ridiculous that so many Vols fans see a great defensive back who carried his team to victory making huge plays throughout the season and lead his team to the national title beating out another QB with large numbers as a personal shot from ESPN and allow it to fuel years of hatred. Get over it. Woodson was a fantastic player.
no bone to pick because the Heisman is now about as relevant as the Nobel Prize, but defensive back / punt returners do not dominate football games and never will. His team won a pathetic Big 10 and beat WSU to win the title. Absolutely laughable. Woodson was a good cornerback and returned a punt for TD against a lame ND team (and that was the difference).

The Big 10 wasn't so bad... Penn State and Ohio State were all pretty good teams. Washington State was a top 10 team at least. Woodson, in his big game against Ohio State, had a pick in the endzone, caught a pass to set up a touchdown, and took a punt back all the way, while shutting down David Boston. In the championship game, he had a big interception of Ryan Leaf. In Manning's 2 biggest games, UT got drilled.

WSU was top 10 in name only. That team absolutely sucked. The OSU game was a good football game, but game MVPs aren't Heisman winners. Not worth the debate because I don't really care. I'm much more pissed about UM being handed that NC for beating a weak Big 10 and a pathetic WSU team.

Fowler described Tennessee fans as "trailer trash" over the Manning vs. Woodson heisman debate. The game day crew got hell when they came back to Knoxville. They had them located far away from the fans and I don't think they like coming to Knoxville now. Speaking of, when was the last time they were there?

I agree. Leaf or Moss had a better year than Woodson or Manning that year.

The only defensive player to win the Heisman is Woodson. That should tell you that a DB should never win it, unless he had 5 picks all returned for TD's every game.

That is a stupid post... If a defensive player is the most outstanding he deserves to win it.

How is a DB the star of any team? A QB or RB has a lot more impact than any DB can have, based on the number of touches those positions get.

I think you are either a Michigan fan, a Manning hater, an ESPN employee, or the biggest Charles Woodson fan ever.

Again the award is for the best player in college!!!!!
NOT- This award goes to who we think will be the best player in the NFL.

Big moments define a player's season. Manning's big moment in '97- Throwing a touchdown pass to Tony George in the Florida game. Woodson's big moment in '97- A performance for the ages against Ohio State.

*Swil wonders how many Vols would sing a different tune if Coker won the Heisman in a couple of years from now*
