Am I the only one . . .

Oh wow you got me, I'll just forget everything I stand for when I enter the booth right? Just because he wins the nomination has no bearing on my opinion of him one way or the other, and for you to suggest I shouldn't express it is ridiculous.
I don't care how long or how loud you voice your opinions. you are the one who suggested that he shouldn't ask for your vote. Not me. If you think he shouldn't deign to ask for your punch, then you're implying that there is another, better alternative. I put your reaction to his AUDACITY to ask in practical terms.

I get what you're saying but if you're talking about actual conservatives, it's not that hard to sum up... low taxes, less government, strong military, pro life, pro guns, judges, etc.... And while Reagan was in no way perfect, he was a great conservative leader, and comparing him to McCain is way off base.

What makes conservatives mad is McCain gives the party the finger on a regular basis, and makes no bones about it, but now he wants our vote.

McCain does favor low taxes, less government, fiscal responsibility, strong military, he's pro-life and pro-gun and has said he will appoint strict constructionalist judges.

Reagan had more charisma but his record is/was no more conservative than McCain's.

I think you last point is the crux - people are mad a McCain for some of his actions. The fall back is that he is not conservative. People loved Reagan so they ignore his less than conservative positions on some issues. In the end, they are pretty equally conservative.

At what point did I ever say there is a better alternative? There is no alternative, that's exactly the problem... and that's what my gripe is. As far as asking for my vote, he made his bed, now he has to lie in it. I know I'll swallow my pride come November, but the point is I shouldn't have to, and he shouldn't act like "Hey guys, what's the big deal?" If he wants my vote, he will be called out on his record.

1975 CPAC Speech by Governor Ronald Reagan (R-CA)

While I respect your opinion, this is what Reagan stood for... I don't think you can in good conscious read this and put McCain in the same category.

1975 CPAC Speech by Governor Ronald Reagan (R-CA)

My point is that McCain and Reagan are a lot closer than has been represented. In another thread, it was suggested the McCain and Kennedy are indistinguishable.

Reagan espoused conservative values but his actions did not always match his stated values. Likewise, on many issues, McCain is quite conservative. I think he's more of a deficit hawk than Reagan was. His stance on immigration is actually more conservative than Reagan's was. He is very strong on the military and the role of the US in world stabilization.

To me, Reagan is best remembered as someone that revived the conservative movement. Yet under his leadership we saw amnesty and a historic growth in government and national debt. We also saw the seating of moderate and sometimes liberal supreme court justices. These actions are inconsistent with his views in the speech provided. I'm not dogging Reagan just showing that perception and reality don't always match.
