is there a religious tilt to the book?

The book's author, Michael Pell, has a religious tilt to everything he does and probably his most crucial mission is to bring together Christians and Jews to fight the Palestinians. The book itself has little to do with tax policy and everything to do with the idea of American exceptionalism. To say that the Tea Party is only concerned with tax policy, yet this is the only book on their suggested reading list, is a bit odd.

Whats the problem with that?

The belief that America is inherently better than every other nation. That America has some sort of destiny to guide the world. You find nothing wrong with these statements? You find nothing contradictory with a movement that is apparently only concerned with tax-policy suggesting reading material that embraces the idea of American World-Hegemony?

Other nations don't hate us because of an aggressive foreign policy. They hate on us because they are jealous. They hate our freedom, wealth, [insert American awesomeness here], etc. and that's why they want our innocents dead.

Do we not have the worlds best military?
Do we not have the best currency?
Do we not have the deepest capital markets?
Do we not have the highest GDP?
Do we not have the worlds largest corporation?
Do we not have the best overall education?
Do we not have the overall best Health Care?
Do we not use the most Energy?

We are exceptional

Hahahahahahahaha....that was worth a good laugh. We no longer have the strongest economy, the smartest students, the highest quality of life, or the best military (when was the last time we could actually say we won a war? WWII, maybe? (if it makes one feel better to count Grenada and Panama, go for it)).

America has all the potential to be exceptional; as in, America has a great Constitution. We have certainly not realized this potential.

We are exceptional

That's not what American exceptionalism is about. It's not the "unusually excellent" definition of exceptional. It's the "superior" definition of exceptional. I dispute that we are superior.

We are superior in certain categories, like wealth, but the importance of wealth in establishing "superiority" is subject to the eye of the beholder. Polls show Mexicans (in Mexico) are happier than Americans. Maybe that should be the measure of superiority.

We have the best military. It is unquestionable. You're calling what's going on in Afghanistan and Iraq a war against another military? Not an intelligent statement.

We'll line up against EVERYONE else's military and kick their asses. Handily.

Pretty sure we smoked a top 5 military power back in the early 1990s

That's nice, but which war effort hasn't been a disaster since WWII? We have the strongest military, but we mismanage it into the ground. Good for us.

Iraq, although the middle was ugly, has been a huge success. A HUGE success. It's up to the Iraqis to sort out their political mess. The United States DoD can't fix that for them.

War IS a disaster, if you haven't figured it out yet.

But hey, if you don't want to have the world's strongest military, go ahead and vote for Ron Paul. He'll do more damage to it than Clinton.

What did we gain in Iraq. What did we get for our $800 billion or whatever it cost?

That's false. He wants to cut defense spending, not defense. Only a fraction of our defense budget actually makes us safer.

I just saw research that showed homeland security would have to foil like 1000 9/11's every year to justify the cost.
