American Exceptionalism (split)

so what nations do you think are superior to us?

I don't play that game. That's the point. I like wealth, but some people don't. I like where I'm at, but I also recognize I might've liked coming up in Mexico if I didn't know any different. I might not like America if I did know different. I don't really know.

If I ever say America is superior, it will probably be qualified. I would say, "superior in terms of wealth" cause flat out saying they are "superior" in general is nonsense to me. It has no meaning. It's just my stupid prideful opinion.

We have the best military. It is unquestionable. You're calling what's going on in Afghanistan and Iraq a war against another military? Not an intelligent statement.

We'll line up against EVERYONE else's military and kick their asses. Handily.

Our military is fighting soldiers...and, our military is losing in Afghanistan. We certainly have superior military technology. That is about where our superiority ends.

You're pretty slick, but you're not fooling. Just say you aren't gonna answer the question and be done with it.

Seriously. What does it matter how I feel? What matters is if we'd actually be safer or not. And there's only one way to actually find out.

Pretty sure we smoked a top 5 military power back in the early 1990s

Interesting; I was under the understanding that we left their military and their leadership intact and had to return in 2003.

There is a qualitative difference between winning tactical engagements and strategically winning wars. We have not done the latter since WWII (and that is questionable, since we allowed the Soviets to retain and gain so much power).

It only matters cause I have you in a jam. You mocked me for inferring that you can cut defense spending without actually cutting national defense. You won't answer the question because if you say "yes" you'll look like a fool, and if you say "no" you'll have contradicted your mockery of me.

Iraq, although the middle was ugly, has been a huge success. A HUGE success. It's up to the Iraqis to sort out their political mess. The United States DoD can't fix that for them.

War IS a disaster, if you haven't figured it out yet.

Iraq was not a huge success when I was there in 09-10. Our military paid off the insurgents in the Sunni Triangle to stop fighting us.

I don't understand what's so hard to comprehend. I have no idea if we'd be just as safe or not. We would literally have to do it in order to find out.

This is a completely ignorant statement.

Maybe we should just line up the Army and the Marines and raze the entire country of Afghanistan, kill all military-aged males, and then declare victory...Just to prove that our "fighting soldiers" are superior. How about that? How would that work?

Part of our problem is that Americans think their feelings matter so damn much.

You missed the party when the rest of us were in regular gunfights the 7 years prior.

It was a lot of fun.

And we never, ever, lost a gunfight.

Or, we could just leave Afghanistan and Iraq and fight purely defensive wars.

The Afghan fighters are better soldiers than ours. I complained and still do about how grueling Ranger School was; yet, the men who fight us in Afghanistan do so under similar conditions for years (not just 60 some odd days). While I do not agree with what they are fighting for nor some of their methods, I do not hesitate to respect their soldierly qualities.

If this is the case, then every nation with nuclear capabilities is equal militarily; thus, this disproves your notion that America is superior militarily. Thanks for playing dialectics.

Just because they have "nuclear capabilities" doesn't mean they have the ability to carry it out. Who the **** is able to nuke us into oblivion?
