I liked the movie, but I interpreted the end differently in the film and novel. Movie it seemed pretty obvious that the murders never happened, novel I felt like the theme was that he could even confess to the crimes but the vapid yuppie culture would never notice, comprehend or acknowledge it. That's my take on it anyway.

IMO the apartment scene at the end supports the belief that the murders were real. Unless he hallucinated the apartment scene.

True, but there is a difference between borrowing and straight up regurgitating which is what seems to be the going trend in hollywood nowadays.

Full disclosure: the batman reboot has definitely been awesome.
