Since obviously Ras cares so much about my opinion on the matter, I'll respond. I was going to leave it be since my opinion on the matter is in previous posts and I didn't think your post needed a reply. But here goes...
The first comment from the Honorable Ventura:
Ventura said. "I was accused of treason, which in the military is the death penalty."
Exactly who accused him of treason? And I don't recall the military filing charges. But my, my, my, let's not go overboard with the drama or anything.
And the second:
"I can't go to a SEAL reunion anymore," Ventura said. "That was the one place that I always felt safe. I can't go there anymore. I would be looking over my shoulder now wondering who's going to come after me next. And so, don't think I come out of this unscathed."
Speaking of upping the drama. But if he can't go to a SEAL reunion any longer, there's very likely a reason for that. Want to guess what that might be? The fact he went after the widow and family of one of the "family" perhaps:
Jesse Ventura Targets Slain Navy SEAL's Widow In Lawsuit
Ex-wrestler and former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura has moved to sue the widow of a U.S. veteran who was known as the most lethal sniper in American military history.
Ventura's lawyers have filed a motion requesting that a federal court allow him to sue Taya Kyle, the widow of former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, in place of the veteran, who was killed by a U.S. Marines reservist whom he was mentoring at a Texas shooting range in February.
Do you honestly think the SEAL community looks highly on that matter?
And the third:
"Taya Kyle had all of her attorney fees paid by insurance. I did not. I incurred two-and-a-half years of lawyer fees that I have to pay to clear my name, and she had insurance paying everything for her," Ventura said on "CBS This Morning." "It was me against an insurance company."
Ventura said he will use his winnings to pay his lawyers' fees.
I've always been of the mind that if you can't afford the lawyer fees to sue someone, the suit shouldn't go forward.
And that insurance company thing? Not entirely accurate:
Former Gov. Jesse Ventura Blasts American Sniper's Chris Kyle for 'Fabrication' - American Sniper, Movie News, Jesse Ventura : People.com
The Star Tribune reported that the $500,000 awarded to Ventura for defamation would be paid by the insurance from HarperCollins, but the $1.3 million unjust enrichment award would "presumably come from the money earned from the book."
Regardless of how much the book made, this again comes down to principle.
I know very little about Chris Kyle, never saw the movie, never heard his name until he died...but when I read the article above, Ventura certainly doesn't come across as the douche.
About that...
Jesse Ventura: âI Won, Chris Kyle Was a Liarâ
Ventura interrupted a broadcast of the Sirius XMs Opie and Jimmy Show to tell hosts Gregg Opie Hughes and Jim Norton that he had won his suit against the estate of the deceased Kyle.
I won. Chris Kyle was a liar, Ventura said. I won in federal court.
I won. I won.
When asked by the hosts to sit down and do a full interview, Ventura walked away.
And:
Ventura on Kyle: 'I took on that alleged dead war hero and his grieving widow' - CNNPolitics.com
"Imagine, I took on this alleged dead war hero and his grieving widow, how much evidence there must have been for the jury to have overwhelmingly sided with me as well as the judge," Ventura told CNN's "New Day."
Bragging about taking on a widow of a fallen hero...this is where I bring up how much of a douche he is.
But furthermore, the whole incident was during a wake of a fallen SEAL where Ventura was allegedly running his mouth and turned political. Which also has more than a few that supposedly witnessed the incident:
Witnesses rebut Ventura's assertion that fight was a lie - StarTribune.com
Now, most people would refrain from popping someone in the mouth over such things, but booze does tend to make such irrational acts happen.
I mean, how hard is it to just not make up stories about prominent people and publish them in what is sure to be a popular book?
You do realize that nowhere in the book the name "Jesse Ventura" is ever mentioned? And that Kyle only stated well after it was published it was Ventura?
And one more thing that was completely out of whack in my opinion was the fact that case was heard in Minnesota. I'd tend to think that didn't level the playing field at all. And I'm glad the case is on appeal for a more neutral location.
