An area that must improve and can

Ok, I get that DY is not CP. Other than that I can't understand the overly critical statements about him being tiny and easy to knock down ect...

This guy has done more than a serviceable job as the return man, he's not put the team in bad spots with mistakes and he's made some plays.

More importantly he is unselfish. He switched from RB to WR and back to RB for the team. He worked past his wrist injury. He doesn't complain, he fights for extra yards. I mean jeebus crispy....he's not a bum. I get it, we all want an electric return guy, we want big plays, touchdowns and hooplah. I think you misunderstand how a team is built though. It's built with Devrin Young's. Not Cordarrle Paterson's/

If somebody hot and fresh comes up and supplants DY, that's just groovy. IF it happens though it will be because he was pushed competitively by a fighter who gives his all for his team. To me, that worth more than an extra 2.3 yards per return.

...nailed it

The Devrin Young bashing on here is absolutely ridiculous. Tennessee has been playing football for almost 118 years and this kid is fourth (4th) on the all-time kickoff return yards list with 1263 yds. All-time. Ahead of him? Only Willie Gault (1854), Leonard Scott (1788), and Corey Larkins (1307). And something would have to go drastically wrong for him not to move past Larkins and grab the 3rd all-time spot this year. With a great season, he could even move to number 2.

Lemme repeat that. Number 2. All-Time. On the Tennessee kickoff return yards list.

While we're at it, guess who has more kickoff return yards in a single season than Carl Pickens, Corey Larkins, and Dale Carter?

Devrin Young.

So, if you feel the need to bash a Tennessee born and bred player who has not only given his all but is currently making Tennessee football history as we speak, please, kindly extract your head from your anus and come back to reality.

Preach it!

I love Devrin Young and think he's been one of the most consistent performers over his time as a Vol. However, some of these statistics are skewed simply by the fact that he's had more attempts than most returners in our history. When people are scoring on you almost at will, especially during the Sal fiasco, your return guy will get some yards.

But, he is still a bonefide stud in my book.

I don't have a problem with DY returning kicks at all. When the blocking improves, so will the return game. Blocking on returns is a different skill in that you are blocking in space. Blocking and tackling in space requires a better athlete. This is something that's been in short supply for a while.

Not on returning kicks. Why is dy off limits? I'm not bashing him, I just don't think he is effective and we need a player that strikes fear back there. Dy does not. We can talk about Worley and Dobbs but not young? :peace2:

This isn't bashing DY?? You said this a few pages back .......

"The little guy, Cody blanc et al are not d1 talents...."

And this....

"Not really a bust as he was a never had it. Tiny kid that got over rated early in his high school career. He is not really a burner, goes down on contact, not shifty, no upside, doesn't make the first guy miss which is critical in the return game. Should have went to Tusculum...."

and this...

"Devrin young is the worst kick off man innthe sec. We need a big time difference maker at the position. So embody that strikes fear in the heart of the opponent. Accepting a good little guy that loves the big orange doesn't cut it. There's a bunch of those in the stands."

Come on man. You're bashing the hell out of this kid. Fwiw, I don't think he's the greatest kr either. He's incredibly quick but typically goes down on first contact. But the kid has had some nice returns in his career.... he certainly has been our best option for the last couple years, not even close.

You're entitled to your opinion, just don't say you're not bashing a kid when you clearly are.
