I hate Bama as much as the next Vol fan, but I was d*%$ sure pulling for them last night. For one, I think I dislike ND even more than Bama and I have no idea why considering we don't play ND. Maybe it's the whole "We're too important to join any conference" thing or perhaps it stems from some built up childhood animosity I developed back in the day when they were a perennial power and everyone started wearing that stupid boxing midget on everything (classic case of bandwagon loserism), IDK. Secondly, when the SEC was sitting at a 3-3 bowl record, suddenly articles & some talking heads start going on about how the SEC was so much weaker than it has been in the recent past, how it's promotion as the best football conference in the country wasn't true anymore, just something die hard SEC fans were perpetuating to make themselves feel falsely superior and spewing garbage about how ND beating AL would prove that the SEC's era of dominance over the rest of the football world was finally coming to a well deserved end. Blah, blah, blah. Now here we are, maybe a week later and the SEC sits with a 6-3 bowl record and a seventh consecutive NC.
So, I guess that nonsense has been put to rest. At least until this time next year anyway. Hopefully, by then, we will get to represent our conference proudly by winning a bowl game. Any bowl win would make me happy atp. If we can't represent our conference, at least others have stepped up during our absence, which has forced a little surprising positivity and pride out of me for our conference partners. Even for those programs that I have resigned myself to hate for the other 364 days of the year like Alabama.
