Another bracket - BEST SPORTS MOVIE EVER

How can they not have at least one Rocky movie on this? And The Longest Yard (the original, not the crappy Adam Sandler version)?

No way those movies are left off and a movie like The Blind Side should be on here.

Without "The Program", this tournament is invalid

The committee had some tough decisions to make. The Program, Little Big League were the "first two out."
Also, we decided to exclude combat films. Otherwise, The Karate Kid and Rocky films would have run away with things.

To exclude combat sports is to exclude the best sports movies ever made. Any list of the best sports movies has to include Rocky and Raging Bull, or it's invalid.

But, even with combat sports excluded, the fact that crap like Ladybugs and Angels in the Outfield are on the list while Slapshot, The Longest Yard, and Cool Runnings are not is all kinds of messed up.

Definitely.

And the Blind Side. That movie is one of the worst supposedly "good" movies I've ever seen. I still can't believe Bullock was nominated, much less won the Oscar for that role. So terrible.

I'm sorry, but again, how did Ladybugs get in over The Program?

And my goodness, where is The Replacements?

This bracket sucks.

Brian's Song? Pride of the Yankees?

Brian's Song is a big miss, and also The Legend of Bagger Vance imo. A great golfing movie, in a wonderful setting, with Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen as key characters, and Will Smith, Matt Damon, and Charlize Theron as the primary actors.

Those movies suck. Rocky wasn't even first 2 out?

IDK if I consider an art piece like Raging Bull a "sports movie". To me, that's like calling Saving Private Ryan an action movie. Yeah it has action/sports in it, but it's much more than that.

I would say add those. The Sandlot and Major League are not negotiable for me. Major League is the sports movie, IMO.

That's a great list bw, but I think many of them could be weeded out by first defining the criteria. For example, if the focus is a "sports movie" then to me that means the movie should be about the sport (i.e. the sport is a significant part of the movie) and not just something that is "featured" in the movie.

Honestly, I tried to do that. I tried to pick films that were either about the sport, or about someone who played the sport. For instance, I thought about The Basketball Diaries, but that's about a drug addict who happened to play basketball, and not about a basketball player.

I wanted the sport to be more than a marginal part of the story. However, my recollection of some of these films might not be great, so please give any recommendations for removal.

No Heaven Is A Playground on there anywhere?

BTW, Rudy is a pretty horrible movie in and of itself.

Boom. 64. NCAA March Madness style baby. Go big or go home.
