Casey ran like a duck. Don't forget he can beat Georgia with one arm tied behind his back.
My friend emailed this to me one day.

Football

We first read about you in ESPN the magazine. What was it like seeing yourself in such a big time magazine?
Its cool just to see how many people recognize me, even though I havent really done anything yet. I just cant wait to get strapped up and play for my high school. Girls have always adored me, but now the fellas are starting to take notice. It's cool though.
In the ESPN article Steve Clarkson called you, the Lebron James of High School quarterbacks. Do you like having those expectations, or do you wish you had a chance to get some experience before they came?
I like having high expectations because it makes me work harder and be better. But you can also fall further too. If you thought that the hype was excessive for LeBron James, just wait until you see what will be thrown my way. I can't wait.
With all this exposure and attention, do you have a target on your back? Will other schools be gunning for you?
Oh yeah. When I become the quarterback theyre going to blitz and really come after me. But I just have to keep my cool and do what I can do. It's cool though.
Playing quarterback runs in your blood. Your dad played and coached, and your brothers are starting and back up QBs at the University of Tennessee. Did you choose to play QB or was it expected?
I wanted to play linebacker, but realized I needed to be a lot faster and bigger. When I saw my brothers and what they could do I wanted to be like them. I wanted to be like Casey until he started losing so much. Rick is much better, but he can't learn the playbook. We are like the Mannings of California. It's cool though.
Do you ever have backyard football games?
When my brothers come home from college we throw the ball. Its kind of fun because they teach me what theyve learned at U. Tennessee, so it gives me a head start on everything. Rick didn't learn much at LSU, so we are trying to wipe it from his memory. Casey doesn't care much for Sandy Randers and his ridiculous play calling. It's cool though.
We understand youve been working out with guys from UCLA and USC. Does that give you an advantage to play with such big, quick guys?
You get used to how fast the college game is, and it just makes everything faster. I'm expected to go to the University of Tennessee, but USC has the style of offense that I like. It's cool though.
The High School game must seem like its in slow motion compared to those college guys.
It helps and it hurts, there are two sides to it. To go from throwing to college players who are so talented and so fast, to guys in high school that are untalented and slow, you really have to adapt. It's cool though.
So it helps to play against a high school defense, but hurts to have high school teammates.
(Laughs) Yeah. It's cool though.
Are you excited to gear up and go full speed?
I cant wait. I dont know if Ill be the starter this year because theres a senior ahead of me, but Ill see some time. My parents have contributed heavily to the school, so it may increase my chances of starting. It's cool though.
That senior has got to be feeling you breathing down his neck and hot on his trail.
(Laughs) Im just trying to work my way in there. As I said, my parents have contributed heavily to the school. If I earn the starting job, the senior will understand. It's cool though.
What other sports do you play besides football?
Playing any sport helps you become more athletic. Basketball, baseball and football all help with conditioning and agility. Playing three sports just gives me an edge. It's cool though.
Whats your biggest weapon in football?
Probably my visionreading defensives. Ive learned that from my brothers and from Steve Clarkson. It's cool though.
Whats the best thing about playing quarterback?
Youre in charge, the leader of the team, and you control what the offense is going to do. You know that you have earned the starting spot because your parents worked hard to be able to contribute to your school. It's cool though.
Whats the hardest thing about playing QB?
There are always a lot of people in your face telling you what to do. And when you do well you get too much praise and get a big head. When you mess up youre horrible. It all comes with the territory. It's cool though.
Whats the hardest throw to hit?
The comeback, especially to the flats. Its just a 15 yard route, but you have to throw it 30 yards on a line. You have to have a good arm to hit it Casey is glad that Sandy Randers took it out of their UT playbook. I don't know why. It's cool though.
How far down the road do you look in to your future?
My ultimate goal is to get to the pros, but anything can happen. You cant look too far ahead so you just go day by day. If that Ohio State guy, Maurice [Clarette], challenges the NFL rule, then I may go straight out of high school. I have a few years for them to work out the issues. If LeBron can do it, I don't see why I can't. I will be taller, bigger, stronger, faster ... I'll be a stud by then. It's cool though.
Do you plan on playing for the University of Tennessee Volunteers to keep the tradition alive?
If they open up the offense by then I will. That would mean Sandy Randers leaving as offensive coordinator. I'm a run-and-gun, West Coast offense kinda guy. I can air it out, so it wouldn't be a good fit with the Tennessee run-into-the-pile type of offense. It would be Casey, Rick, then me - It would be the "Clausen Three Tennessee". I'll have to wait and see because Ron Zook has been calling as well; actually it was Steve Spurrier calling on Ron Zook's behalf. It's cool though.
Who would you say your playing style is most like?
I have a strong arm like my oldest brother Casey, and quick feet like my brother Rick. I just got the genes between the two of them. I'm a good combination of both. It's cool though.
So your parents finally got it right on their last son?
(Laughs) Yeah. It's cool though.
There you have it, Jimmy Clausen, the Golden Boy of prep school football who may lift the University of Tennessee Volunteers back to college football prominence. We are stuck in mediocrity right now, but the future looks promising with the dreams of Tennessee fans being
