DeAndre Kane confirms to CBSSports that he did not wind up committing to Pittsburgh on visit. Panthers still in mix -- as is Memphis.

Kane had told me that he was set to commit to Pittsburgh on visit. Did not wind up happening.

He's tough as hell. I wish we could get him to be honest. Why go to Memphis when they are already stacked at guard? Come here and be a huge asset

it takes a lot for Herrion to run you off, and Kane was probably their best player.

By miles.

He has talent, but is nothing but trouble to say the least. I'd have to imagine a great deal of desperation before CCM would take the risk on him for only a potential year's worth of productivity.

I thought he was going to leave for the NBA after his sophomore year. Good athlete, but Memphis would have a real logjam at 1-3 positions. I don't know why he would go there anyway. He needs to go somewhere that needs him to play a lot of minutes.

I'm surprised he didn't just go pro. It would be a challenge for Cuonzo and the team, but he has some talent. In the end, I don't think it would be a good fit, though.

That's why coaches get the big bucks, though, managing talents who may be head cases. Unless you are K, you can't hand pick guys who have the talent and are easy for you to manage. Heck, K has had to manage a few egos along the way. Put it this way, if the screen is only kids who are at home at an FCA rally, there are a few of the all time greats in the Vol program who wouldn't have suited up.

Some interesting numbers...

37mpg
25% from 3
52% from FT
7apg but 4.2topg

The cherry-picking stats you missed:

15.1 ppg
4.4 rpg
1.8 spg
1.66 a/t

Kane was forced to play PG when incoming PG was declared academically ineligible just prior to the season. Won't see the point at UM; natural wing who is the junkyard dog-type player the Tigers need.

Pastner will earn his money if/when Kane comes to UM. Follow Twitter for latest.

Wasn't cherry picking stats, kind of picking the stats that would be important to Tennessee. We don't need a scoring PG, we had one in golden and we saw our fair share of the issues it brought. For a lot of teams a scoring PG is a great thing, but with our roster build we don't need a score first PG, so thats why i didnt really mention PPG. The biggest red flag to me is 3pt% and ft%, we really need a PG who can hit the outside shot, his 3pt% is about as good as Shaq's, and his FT % may even be worse than Shaq's.

You say yourself he's a wing, his bad stats were a result of being forced to play PG, well guess what he'd play at UT? The discussion wasn't about Memphis and his fit, but since that's where you took it ill give my 2 cents. Unless Pookie and Iverson aren't gonna qualify I wouldn't touch this kid if I was Pastner. You have someone with a history of being disruptive, and you wanna bring him onto a team that has some guys with questionable characters already. This is a big year for Pastner, do you really wanna risk this guy becoming disruptive if he's only getting 10mpg?

Nice stats, but he's another COMBO guard forced to play point, but we're scrambling. It's amazing to me that we haven't signed a pure point guard in years. Had Landry for a moment, but he was asked to look elsewhere. Bad initial evaluation by CCM to take his commitment so early. There's got to be a good pure PG in our future.

Good points, and we all saw how the Tarik Black situation went. Unhappy, discontent, walking out of practice. Not that this is what this kid would do but to expect him to play less mins will be interesting.

Man I hope he winds there instead of the Vols..this kid is Trouble with a capital T...I know CCM will take that into consideration and I trust his judgement but I just dont think he would fit with the team concept that CCM teaches...needs to go where one on one rules the day and that's not us...

Just somebody that can dribble the ball and cross midcourt without a turnover ever time, looks like we could get just 1, dont have to be AA just pretty good ball player and this team will be:dance2:

Haha. I actually played pickup one time with him at UT. He was a pretty steady ballhandler but wasn't a great shooter. It is amazing how much better those guys are compared to a very good pickup player. He was lighting it up all over the place. I also got a chance to lob it to Vegas Davis one day in a pickup game. It was a blast playing pickup at UT.

Love a blast from the past. Vegas Davis huh.... I know what you mean about how good those guys are in pick-up games. Worked a basketball camp at my alma mater with Tony Harris and Rashard Lee, in 1998. Tony Harris was the fastest thing I had ever seen on two feet. And Lee was a freak in our pick-up games. Tony was a pretty good college player, when he wasnt shooting us out of games. But Lee was just an average college player.

There is no "I" in team, but there's definitely an "I" in Tony Harris. Such a waste of potential. That guy was pretty much Iverson-in-his-prime quick with the ball.
