Just went back and watched this. He said we would be a pro-style offense. That's not really true. That kind of makes me wonder if maybe he wasn't trying to get Bray and crew to stay.

He also said that we would have great special teams. For the most part, he was absolutely right about that. Our coverage was off a couple of games, but special teams were a huge improvement.

It was also stated that he would love his players. I really think this is true, and the players love him back. It's amazing how much better your players will play for you if they believe in you. I think Butch's mentality has also played a huge role in recruiting. I think we were going to end up with a pretty good class anyway, because we had a lot of legacy players, but it goes beyond legacy players.

Butch had won a conference championship 66% of the time. I don't think he can keep that percentage THAT high, but I do think he'll snag a conference title while he's here, especially if he can recruit at this level every year. Anyway, check out the vid for memories of how excited we were.

They run a spread with pro style passing concepts. The pro style talk with our offense has to do mostly with the kind of route combinations we use.

To be good at this offence we have to be able to run inside zone when we want to. For the most part we did very well. I think what alabubba does upfront is ideal. They zone lots of plays but have and use a package of traditional hand down straight ahead blocking. We struggled doing that this season. Re: 3rd & 4th and short. The 4th downs we converted against good defenses were smoke and mirror plays. He will learn the sec as he goes. I look for some changes next season scheme wise. GO VOLS

no the/point is all was bs coach speak so take it with a grain of salt..

he is recruiting well n he didnt make a bowl his first yr like/dools n kiff so when will he win that championship? he wont get 5 yrs btw..

i think his competition has increased so all of his historical stats will derease.

He lost to Vandy twice as a vols coach?
We should kick his ass.

Wait, he's only played Vandy once.

Just for accuracy's sake, Dooley would not have gotten Wharton, The Berrys, TKJr, or Bates .... either they or their father each said so publicly. Not sure about Neiko.

I think the biggest thing, IMO is they were very limited play book wise due to depth. A lot of pro style involves two tight end sets, multiple backs to carry the load. Lane has not proven to stay healthy or carry the load yet...And no offense to the kid, but AJ Branisel was 2nd string TE and he got banged up. Fwiw they had a decent year rushing the ball. Thank goodness for Neal and a great Oline.

Not to nitpick dooley2 but a lot of us were decidedly not excited then and 5-7 didn't do much to change that. If they can win 7 or 8 next year and sustain the recruiting momentum with a 2015 class as good as the 2014 class then I might get off the fence.

Geez... We'll adjust. Just as the Sport evolves so do the coaches, players, Refs, etc etc.
Of course his lifetime record will decrease due to moving to the SEC with a poor Team ? God does that HAVE to be stated ?
He will get 5 years and prolly six !
But that doesn't matter because he will sign an extension in either 15 or 16.
This thing we love is changing faster now than at anytime in it's History. Not because we want it to, but because it has to. Butch was a perfect hire, at an imperfect time, given the time we will be fine.... and just noticed I'm a Poet !

How long CBJ is here depends on the team's performance, same as with Dooley. Whether or not he wins enough games in year 3 to get to year 4 will depend on how well he can coach up the 2014 class in 1 year and whether he can sustain top 5 recruiting for 2015. If he wins, he stays. It's simple.

What team runs a zone read every play in a no huddle offense?

San Fran and Washington all run a version of this. They had to run it more than they wanted because of the qbs & wrs inability to get the passing game in track. Look for us to run an offense similar to Denver, New England & Green Bay in the future.

If you ever watched Cincinnati, the QB keeps only a few times a game...even when they have Munchy Legeaux at QB.

It may not be the Power I, and the QB usually operates out of the shotgun, but it's pretty balanced between the run and the pass. I've seen even the Titans operate heavily out of the shotgun, rather than under center.

If they beat UGA and Vandy you have a completely different season, pro-style or not. Facts are, Butch didnt.

Sorry but 5-7, losing to Candy is crap. A big stinking pile of it.
