Another SEC Championship game

I believe the first round west regional is in Charlotte. Win both of those, and let’s travel.
It’s not the first round of the West Regional that is in Charlotte - first weekend sites have no tie-in to any specific region. Charlotte is where we’ll play, regardless of region because it’s the closest first weekend site to Knoxville.

No team or head coach will look you in the eye and say “we want a worse seed” just because of location. Even if we are in the west, the first two games will likely be in the same location as if we were a 2 seed (Charlotte/Memphis). The only thing that will change would be the opponents and the location of the Sweet 16 and Elite 8
So possibly a show down with Arizona in Glendale

Having a "shared" championship is stupid. Having a year end conference tournament is stupid. It's NOTHING but a way to fleece fans for more money. BTW... automatic bids for tourney winners is stupid. Why play the regular season? Some **** team lucks into winning a conference and knocks out a team that deserves to be in the NCAAT, but only has one bid. Again.... STOOOPID. But the NCAA has never been accused of being full of Mensa members.

I’ve never understood a regular season champ. Are they the only sport that does that while also crowning a conference tournament champion?

Most sports/leagues do it but it's not as celebrated and doesn't also have a conference tournament before a National Championship or full league tournament. Seems like CBB is greedy, lol.

Conferences added their tournaments to award their official bids to the NCAAT. It’s less relevant now for the P-6 conferences since the NCAAT field has more than doubled. Conference tournaments generate a lot of TV revenue for the conferences so they aren’t going to get rid of them any time soon.
Correct all about the money. League tourney need to be gone.

You are so right. Think of all the money the athletic department will save not having to print banners and paying techs to raise them to the rafters of TBA

I think a regular season title is far more impressive than an SEC tournament title. It’s accomplished over a long season versus some team getting hot for 3 or 4 games. The conference tournaments are a money grab and nothing more.

The ones that should really hate them are one bid leagues. Teams that win the regular season but then don't get the bid because they weren't good for 3 more days after being the best for 4-5 months.

Exactly. That’s why a regular season title should mean more. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoyed the recent tournament title but I just don’t think it carries the same weight as doing it over an 18 game schedule.

I believe that winning a regular season SEC championship is a bigger accomplishment than winning the SEC tournament title. It is tougher to be the best team over the span of two and a half months rather than being the best team over a span of three to four days. Although, basketball is a tournament sport.

Now there's an idea. Why not give the team the option? Lets say we get the #1 in the west. But we want some Vol fans to show up so we have the option to give up a seed to take a lower seed in a different region? It would certainly create a whole new landscape for strategic planning. I doubt it would ever fly but it would make the seeding process very serious indeed. I'm sure there would be plenty of pitfalls.

Quick question, taking a roadie up to that dump of a city tomorrow night, this is my first away game. Do Vols do One Fly We All Fly on road? Wanna get a nice shot

I have been listening to all the predictions from the podcasts around the country. Not a good matchup for the Vols, slow down game at home favors the cocks, USC plays well against the top teams. Most are predicting a low scoring back and forth type game.

I think the Vols come out and show the league who is in charge leading by 20 at the break, then holding on the 2nd half for the SEC championship. (if Bama loses)

The head-to-head argument has more validity if all teams play a balanced schedule. If I’m not mistaken, South Carolina only had to play one other team in the top 6 twice . . . Tennessee. Tennessee had to play South Carolina, Alabama, and Kentucky twice. South Carolina has had an extremely favorable SEC schedule. Even if they win tomorrow night, I have no doubt South Carolina would have a worse record than Tennessee if they’d played the same schedule.
