There is something going on on the team that players aren't talking about. And it isn't competition or being recruited over. Wish we knew the full story.
Mitchell had a press conference to talk about all the departures--but said nothing other than some BS about every situation being different. About 9 players and coaches have left since October. The problem is clearly Mitchell--and I can only assume that neither players nor coaches like the man...at all. He made a strange point, saying that he wants to compile a new staff that will help him communicate with the players. He sounds like a complete asshat who needs assistants who can insulate him from his own players--that's what I inferred from that remark. Seems like odd man. When more than half your program flees, you've got a problem.

You don't really think those unconditional releases came without stipulations do you? Stipulations as in you keep your mouth shut or I won't let you leave.
I spoke with Jen Smith from the Herald Leader and she is all over this story but cannot get any players--going all the way back to the Victoria Dunlap days to talk.
I think it goes beyond coaching chemistry. Isn't it odd that one player, Epps showed up at the press conference with Mitchell. Where did the other players stand? At least one (Jennings) clearly wasn't supportive of her coach. What about the remaining 4? It seems to suggest she may be part of the issue.
That's the thing I said, I think the problem is Epps. When they had Danisha Stallworth and Samarie Walker (Epps freshman year) they were focused on getting the ball inside to their post players. Even Jenifer O'Neil would find ways to get the ball inside. Epps refuses to do so and has yet to see a shot she doesn't like. As a post player when you are doing all the dirty work and are not getting rewarded it has a tendency to weigh on you and other guards also start to feel the same way. Epps has (imo) the Kobe mentality and not many can and want to play with her. I think she has been given the green light to do as she pleases and Matthew gets on the other girls when they do the same thing and it has destroyed his team.
It has to go beyond that. Simmons spent the first 2 years of her career jacking up shots when she had Glory Johnson, Kelly Cain and Vickie Baugh in the post.
