There is something going on on the team that players aren't talking about. And it isn't competition or being recruited over. Wish we knew the full story.

This isn't business has usual--something is rotten in Denmark. How many players and coaches have left now--half a dozen at least. Have the kentucky papers not revealed anything?

Mitchell had a press conference to talk about all the departures--but said nothing other than some BS about every situation being different. About 9 players and coaches have left since October. The problem is clearly Mitchell--and I can only assume that neither players nor coaches like the man...at all. He made a strange point, saying that he wants to compile a new staff that will help him communicate with the players. He sounds like a complete asshat who needs assistants who can insulate him from his own players--that's what I inferred from that remark. Seems like odd man. When more than half your program flees, you've got a problem.

I agree. He seemed strange to me when he was jumping on chairs in Tennessee's locker room after they beat the Lady Vols a few seasons ago. Also, when he acted like he didn't even know Cierra Burdick's name in a presser, referring to her as "#11". I'm still shock that Kyra went back to UK after Mitchell had her office packed and all her belongings sitting outside of her office when she accepted the position at Tennessee.

He made the problem of not being very connected to the assistants. He let one go and it created a domino effect, A couple players probably should be leaving anyway, and recruits who are close to the assistants are understandable...but bottom line is Matt lost control and didn't handle it at all.

You don't really think those unconditional releases came without stipulations do you? Stipulations as in you keep your mouth shut or I won't let you leave.

I spoke with Jen Smith from the Herald Leader and she is all over this story but cannot get any players--going all the way back to the Victoria Dunlap days to talk.

I think it goes beyond coaching chemistry. Isn't it odd that one player, Epps showed up at the press conference with Mitchell. Where did the other players stand? At least one (Jennings) clearly wasn't supportive of her coach. What about the remaining 4? It seems to suggest she may be part of the issue.

They need to start hunting down some people that makes seven that have left. I guess the walk on tryouts will begin soon.

That's the thing I said, I think the problem is Epps. When they had Danisha Stallworth and Samarie Walker (Epps freshman year) they were focused on getting the ball inside to their post players. Even Jenifer O'Neil would find ways to get the ball inside. Epps refuses to do so and has yet to see a shot she doesn't like. As a post player when you are doing all the dirty work and are not getting rewarded it has a tendency to weigh on you and other guards also start to feel the same way. Epps has (imo) the Kobe mentality and not many can and want to play with her. I think she has been given the green light to do as she pleases and Matthew gets on the other girls when they do the same thing and it has destroyed his team.

I still think there is something going on that is more than Epps. Epps and Kyvin Gooding-Rodgers were best friends and she still transferred out. Mitchell just as well resign, he will get murdered on the recruiting trail along with Elzy. I'm telling you there is so much that goes on behind the scenes that we as fans have no clue. Just like there is more to why Holly fired Kyra. Some poster wouldn't have posted that "Holly handled the Elzy situation well and she's getting mad respect from parents and coaches in the AAU circuit", something happened, but no one really wants to elaborate. Something is going on in UK's program and no one really wants to talk. I guarantee you word is spreading like a wildfire on the AAU circuit as to what is going on. I doubt Elzy or Mitchell will be able to reel in any top recruits.

It has to go beyond that. Simmons spent the first 2 years of her career jacking up shots when she had Glory Johnson, Kelly Cain and Vickie Baugh in the post.

I wasn't saying she is the only problem, I think she is apart of the problem. As to the Elzy situation, I will wait to see how our players do this year. A lot of players today are extremely babied and it is hurting the game imo. Many feel entitled and don't feel as though they have to work for it and the moment a coach says something to them that they don't like they are ready to leave. I currently coach on the AAU circuit and have for over 13 years and the kids I coach today are a lot more sensitive to the kids I coached 13 years ago. I agree that there shouldn't be abuse (if that is going on it needs to stop) but a coach demanding more out of a player or wanting them to live up to their recruiting rank shouldn't be held against them.
