Anti-Trump Hysteria and Silliness

Another possible connection here is that Park Overall, former actress is a big liberal involved in activism also lives on the Nolachuckey River. One thing that I did notice a few days ago that looked odd was that there were about 20 cars parked at the old Bewley farmhouse on the river. I go by there often, and there is hardly ever any activity.

It's Nolichucky FTR

I wouldn't want to put money on the way it's spelled, because I have seen it in books, newspapers and state bridge signs spelled Nolichucky, Nolachucky, Nolichuckey, and Nolachuckey. It is an old Indian word meaning Nayeeyali, which is an old Indian word meaning Adawehi.

Yeah that's them
Where did you read this about the Bewleys?

Both parents are extremely smart, as are the kids. They were sent away to expensive schools. Very nice bunch of people. The father of the 30+ year olds sold his sand and gravel and hauling business that his father started, for what I heard was $40 million.

When he was working, you couldn't pick him out from the hired help, digging sand and gravel out of the river. He still dresses and looks like he doesn't have 2 nickels to rub together. My kind of guy. No put on.

I've got an old American word for you, it's Nolichucky River, based on the Nolichucky settlement as written about in a great historical book called "The Overmountain Men."

Learn your history.

FTR, I'm not saying that you are wrong. My understanding is that the name came from a Cherokee village ....Na na-tlu gun yi, which means "Spruce tree place. The name and spelling are apparently derived from that according to some, and I have seen 4 different spellings around here, so who knows what was passed down. Maybe different spellings in different areas.

Plus, we have the town and school named and spelled Chuckey here in the county. We have the town of Chuckey, so I would add the "e" here in Greene County.

I'll go with the original settlement name. And why?

Cause 'Murican, dammit! I mean, kinda American.

In seriousness, if you've never read it, I'd highly suggest "The Overmountain Men" by Pat Alderman. I got my copy from Books-a-Million over in JC. Great read about early Tennessee history with the Holston, Nolichucky and Watauga Settlements.

There's still a books-a-million in JC?

Have you been to Sycamore Shoals and went to Fort Caswell?

:compute:

That must be a lot of white guilt for those kids to handle

I would think in this case, it's pure amazement of the sheer stupidity shown by that particular person. Kind of like the town hall meeting where the woman tries to get the deer crossing sign moved down the road so the deer would have a safer crossing.

Sometimes in life that look is justified. The Carlson interview was certainly one of those times.

You should catch a Broadway show. If you buy what Carlson is selling --feigned surprise at an answer he knows will be dumb, that's why the guest is on -- you'll be blown away by much better actors.

Shows like his, or the guy in the street interview, O'Keefe I guess, are so obvious. They go find some loon extremist on the other side, act dumbfounded at the loon's answer, then pretend they can't believe that was the answer. Or not so subtly mock them.

Remember the Ghostbusters sequel where Bill Murray is doing the show and interviewing the lady that went to the holiday Inn with the alien? Then he looks at the camera and rolls his eyes.

Same principle.

Met one of them looking to get washed peagravel for a construction site. Said the best way in the world to make money was to find the right piece of the Earth to buy, dig it up and sell it by parts.

Can you just say "you know, I can't believe someone that stupid went on national TV and made a complete ass of themselves. This kind of nonsense really hurts the Democratic movement."

It's easy.

And FTR, I don't watch the Tucker Carlson show. Rarely watch Bill and really don't care for Hannity. I limit my news to Volnation and whatever threads seem to be getting the most outrage these days.

The truth lies somewhere in the middle.
