Very true. I'll take a hoss at DT over an OG any day.

How much does Lowery truly weigh? One source, Rivals, lists him at 6'4, 335, while another source, RecruitingPlanet, lists him at 6'3, 300.

I ask this because if Lowery weighs 335 lbs, he'll have to slim down to fit Kiffin's scheme. Typically, Tampa-2 DL's are undersized in order to rush the passer to compliment the zone coverage.

Look at the Indianapolis Colts' DL. DT Raheem Brock is 274 lbs., DT Eric Foster is 265 lbs., and DT Keyunta Dawson is 254 lbs. Their heaviest DL is 312 lbs.

Tampa Bay's current DL: DT Jovan Haye - 6'2, 285. DT Chris Hovan - 6'2, 298. DT Greg Peterson - 6'5, 286. Ryan Sims - 6'4, 315. Sims is their heaviest guy, and he'd be 20 lbs. lighter than Lowery if Rivals is the correct source.

In order for Lowery to fit the DL, he must be very athletic. This isn't going to be a 2-gap line where we can just throw a massive body in at 2-tech and just have him hold his ground and take up space and double teams. He'll have to have Albert Haynesworth-like athleticism in order to play DT in Monte Kiffin's scheme, and players like those are few and far between at that size.

If he is at 315 or lighter, then he can work with the scheme instead of against it. The knock against the Tampa-2 is that it's a little soft against the run because of the undersized DL, so DT who can stop the run as well as rush the passer fairly well will be at a premium. I think Dan Williams is that type of player, so naturally if Lowery can fit that mold, he'd be one helluva asset in the DL rotation.
