Just wondering. Heard he was going on a visit to some school in Cali. Is his name finally getting out?

He is taking a visit to Santa Clara this weekend. I am pretty sure he will either go there or walk-on at UT.

I didn't know that could be why he was offered by them. he would be better off going to sc cause he isn't going to play here.
I'm sure Kerry still has some contacts in the area. I'd guess that one of them brought McBee to his attention.

Do you think UT would be willing to offer if Smith goes pro/Tabb gets kicked off? Cause I know Wake decided to go after another guy. I think UT needs to offer cause I hope it wouldnt be another Lee Humphery or Terrence Oglesby case

I think UT would be better off swallowing the scholarship than offering it to McBee. nothing taken away from the kid but he would not help UT that much other than a practice dummy.

It is easy too against low level competition. When he is pretty much the biggest guy on his team and on the floor.

yes it is low competition but no he is not the biggest guy on the floor. and alot of the times he is double teamed. is he the answer to all of our problems? no but he is a scorer and never scared to shoot. i hate to compare him to lofton but he does have alot in common with him. underrated, deep 3 threat, and undersized.

Comparing him to Lofton is flat out ridiculous. He will never be lofton, nor come close. I agree he can hit three's and be double teamed i just think once he gets to the big time D1 level he will not pane out. He would be better off going to somewhere like ETSU or UTC where he could actually get some playing time and still make the NCAA tourney.

This is the same case with Lofton... Nobody is giving the kid a chance.. He was double teamed all year long and still had the stats he did. As far as competition wise Grainger beat a couple of 3aa schools there were bigger and better than them. He takes the game over. UT could use a kid that can come of the bench and score some quick 3's. Im not saying Skylar would be a startting point guard but he would get some key minutes a game. Did anybody see him score 18 in about 3 mins in the Rocky Top League? Guess that talent isnt good enough.....

I forgot they played tough nose, double team defense on him in the rocky top league. If i do remember as well Tatum lit it up in the RTL and you saw how well he produced this year.

The Rocky Top League is as valuable an evaluation tool for prospective collegiate success as MTV's Rock 'n Jock game was for NBA contribution.

And it's not like Lofton was some scrub with no offers. Didn't he still have offers from NC State, Dayton, and a few other teams before we offered?

Edit: Just checked and he had Cincy, UGA, Dayton, NC State and was still a top 150 player

Who's offered McBee? No one we know of at this point. Maybe Santa Clara, but if thats his only offer, how is that good enough for us to take him?

Plus, where would a scholarship come from? We already know one person has to leave the team since Goins signed (I think), so who else would leave/get kicked off to free up a scholly?

If he walks on though, that's all fine and dandy.

I'm 99% sure we were the only school even close to a major D-1 program that offered Lofton a scholly. But, you're correct on his ranking. I don't understand why someone in the Top 150 had so much trouble getting offers.

I was just pulling his offers from rivals. They might have eventually pulled their offers, but he at least had one for a time from all of the schools I listed.

I was told he was set to walk on at UofL when Buzz offered him in Spring, '04. Lofton said in an interview that I think is on the '06 DVD that he was at UT b/c it was basically his only D1 scholly.

If he had offers from those other schools, he probably would have signed somewhere long before Buzz offered (Mar. or Apr. of his senior year). Maybe Rivals' archived database is wrong.

Lofton Likes Four, Favors One

Combo guard Chris Lofton from Mason County High School in Maysville, KY has narrowed his list of schools to Cincinnati, Kentucky, Georgia, and Dayton. All but Kentucky have offered a scholarship to the 6-foot-1, 185-pound sharp shooter.

Rivals.com Basketball Recruiting - On the Bounce with Coach Meyer, vol. 2

Cincinnati and Arkansas have made scholarship offers

Those are just some of them. I don't know how they could mess it up while it was during the season with that many teams.

I found an article that sums up the recruiting process for Lofton very well. It's very interesting. It's best to start at the bottom and start scanning upward. It appears that when UT offered, we were indeed his only major option. It looks like the other schools kept sticking a foot in the door and then pulling it back out of the door over and over.

Recruit - Chris Lofton - Your home for the UC Bearcats

His leader kept changing, probably as he wondered who would finally send him some scholarship papers. By the time UT called, he was probably relieved and ecstatic.
