Any news on Zane Denton

That’s a big loss. Zane is a really experienced bat and leader that this team could have used with so many new faces. Obviously want Zane to do what is best for him and his happiness, but from a pure baseball perspective this is a huge blow.

Good luck, Zane!
I guess this makes figuring out positions easier. Amick was brought in to play 3B and Moore didn’t look comfortable at SS in the exhibition I saw, so I think he needs to be at 2B. We have a logjam at DH.

Yeah this definitely answers some questions (although not the way we wanted them answered).

I’d say Amick probably has 3B on lock now so our entire infield is clear outside of SS now.

Where does Denton fit in?
Zane Denton
, Tennessee’s starting third baseman a season ago, announced in August his intentions to return for a second season with the Vols. But Denton wasn’t with the team during the fall while "handling some things,” according to Vitello, leaving his status with the program up in the air heading into the season.
A decision on how Tennessee and Denton will proceed has not yet been made at the time of this writing. Denton and Vitello are still in communication as they near a resolution.

Considering he’s a likely draft pick, whatever is keeping him from the team and possibly jeopardizing his future is without a doubt something serious.

Whatever it may be, I wish him the best and hope it all works out whether he plays or not.

If Denton hasn't been around all fall, I'm not sure how you handle that. Seems you have to go with the guys who've been there working. Having said that, I'm excited to see youngsters and the new faces. Know we'll miss Denton, but best of luck to him. Hope he figures out what he wants to do.

Even if Denton were to play at this point, he’s missed so much time (as you mentioned), I would think his options would be limited to DH and backup infielder. And even both of those roles might take well into the season to lock down. So best case scenario, he’s a regular DH by season’s end. Most likely scenario, though (IMO, just based on reading the tea leaves), he just moves on.

I hate it for Zane. And I hate it for the team, given how good he is in the clutch. But some things are bigger than sports.

Last time we were informed was that he was away from team and working some things out. Hoping next semester all is good and he is back with team fully. Any new info would be appreciated. His home run against Clemson is an all time highlight and I will remember that forever.

Article in today's edition of the Knoxville News Sentinel stated that Denton and Vitello are staying in touch and that Denton is still mulling over whether to join the team.

Who is the projected starting SS
Ariel Antigua, but he’ll miss the start of the season with a hand injury. So it’ll be between Alex Perry, Dean Curley, and Bradke Lohry until AA is back. Unless they wanna put CMo at SS and I really hope they don’t.

Curley is dealing with an injury, as well…hamstring, I think. I’d bet your middle infield next Friday is CMo and Lohry.
