Any thoughts on why Saban didn't run it to expire more clock?

It seemed like such a "Butch Jones" thing to do. Why not run it up the middle twice to see if Gibbs gets a first or at least run the clock down? I couldn't believe he was just throwing it out there in that situation with the timeouts he had. Run the clock, if you miss the kick it's O.T.
It really doesn't make any sense to me.

He said Tennessee had the box stacked and passing had been working all night, so he thought passing was the best way to get it closer for the FG. The Vol defense just managed to win the battle there.

My guess is they wanted to try to get closer for the FG attempt than just inside his maximum range, given all of Alabama’s kicker’s woes in the Texas A&M game the week before.

He acknowledged poor clock management in his presser. I thought he would milk it but yeah he f’d up which is rare for a coach like Saban. The stars aligned for the big Vols W today and that’s all that matters.
